A Little Bit Of Megxit Humour.

I have nothing against Harry and Meghan - in fact I applaud them for wanting to cut their ties with the Royal family and earn their own living - but a letter in today's West Australian suggesting Hary should be made Governor General of Australia reminded me of a poem by Hilaire Belloc.

You can read the whole poem here: https://monologues.co.uk/Childrens_Favourites/Lord_Lundy.htm   but the extracts that really tickled my funny bone were the following:

Lord Lundy from his earliest years

Was far too freely moved to Tears.

. . . . . . . . . . .

His Grandmamma, His Mother's (or in Harry's case of course Father's) Mother,

Who had some dignity or other,

The Garter, or no matter what,

I can't remember all the Lot!

Said "Oh! That I were Brisk and Spry

To give him that for which to cry!"

(An empty wish, alas! For she

Was Blind and nearly ninety-three).

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .

The Duke -- his aged grand-sire -- bore

The shame till he could bear no more.

He rallied his declining powers,

Summoned the youth to Brackley Towers,

And bitterly addressed him thus--

"Sir! you have disappointed us!

We had intended you to be

The next Prime Minister but three:

The stocks were sold; the Press was squared:

The Middle Class was quite prepared.

But as it is! . . . My language fails!

Go out and govern New South Wales!"

I wonder how Meghan will like losing the title HRH, I remember how the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson craved it all her life and her husband was always made to go begging for  it such was her power over him.  But she never got i.

He may already have it.

When her sons turned 30, each of them inherited roughly $16 million

While Diana split her estate and left money to many people, the majority of it went to Prince William and Prince Harry. Originally, the boys couldn’t touch the trust fund until they were each 25, but Diana’s mother and sister, who were the executors of the will, changed those terms after her death. Prince Harry and Prince William were then allowed to collect the interest at 25 but couldn’t touch the actual money until they were 30. By the time sons’ 30th birthdays came around, they each received a total of $16 million.

And, of course, most if not all of that money originally came from his father, in the massive divorce settlement.

Harry also received a significant amount of money from the Queen Mother's will.

She said it was to help Harry as the "spare"......William would get much much more in the end as the Monarch.

So, if he just leaves his money in the Bank, he'd cop better than $12,000 a week.

No further comment needed, really.

I could live with that but I am not so sure about his spenthrift wife.

BTW....losing the HRH part of the title will not worry Meghan too much.  She is still the Duchess of Sussex which is the only part of the title that the Americans understand......she will still rake in the money as a Duchess.

We the armchair audience only know what we read or hear from the media.

My observation for what it's worth. I think Harry has been battling with mental

health issues which have lead to his wish to lead a more normal life. I think it's

cruel to point the finger at Meghan and blame her for their decision to opt out.

The cruel inuendo and finger pointing by the media must have eventually worn

them both down. With no right of reply or the opportunity to defend themselves

against the backlash from the one sided press who write some BS without needing

to prove the hurtful nasty rubbish they release to us gullible ambulance chasers.

I say good on them and I hope their lives are happier and more fulfilling.

I'd say you are right in that he could be battling mental health issues. Diana certainly had them.

Whether moving to a new country, away from family & friends is the best way to tackle things, I am not so sure.

The media scrutiny is probably just as intense or more so because of the upheaval going on. The decision for Canada though had to be M. The decision to opt out though may ultimately have been Harry's.

The SMH.

"For those reasons, it brings me great sadness that it has come to this.

"The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven't always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there was no other option."

Harry said the couple wanted to continue to serve the Queen, the Commonwealth and his military associations without public funding but "unfortunately, that wasn't possible".

"I've accepted this, knowing that it doesn't change who I am or how committed I am. But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life."
