This might be old news however for lots of reasons I think it is worth discussing

I havent done a search but that sounds very low to me. How could 3 or 4 people possibly serve all those customers and keep the store shelves packed, receive deliveries, keep orders up to date ect,ect all in one day?

Our Woolies ( small town) has dodgy fresh fruit! The fruit & vege is so expensive people don't buy it, so it gets very over ripe and not worth buying! They only put the price down when it is way past its best. Their fruit & vege prices are dearer than other Woolies stores. Makes a mockery of their slogan ' The fresh food people'.
We have other major supermarkets about 15 mins away... so we can avoid buying the over priced, over ripe fruit & vege at our local Woolies.
Our Woolies ( small town) has dodgy fresh fruit! Ah well - more fool them! If they choose to market overly-ripe fruit, and people are gullible enough to buy it at inflated prices, caveat emptor.
The Fresh Food People? Just as well it's not the Cheapest Fresh Food People!
Fortunate to live close to two larger shopping centres, I have the choice of several bigger supermarkets, as well as independent grocers - so it's not that difficult to compare, dare I say it? Apples with apples!

My daughter worked for them for a few years and the the numbers are sort of right. They have that many staff on a any one time in a not so busy store but because they work in shifts there could be a total of 10 or 12 employed at any one store. Busier stores slightly more.
They seem to like to employ quite a lot of people on low weekly hourly shifts, average about 25 hours . Full time are salaried usually.

Um, where are the groceries?
Where is the trolley or the bags?
My biggest battle with costco is not being fast enough to load the bags and the stuff all falling off the end of the counter. I need the trolley to catch it before it hits the floor. 😄

PCW: "lol I imagine all these people with their "hit list" of Halal cheeses furtively going through the cheese cabinet at Costco/ALDI/Woolies/Coles/IGA/wherever, looking for those subversive mind-altering non-Haram products."
I am even worse PCW, I do not give a hoot whether it is Halal, but have to admit to a liking for imported: Dutch Edam, French Brie and Camembert, and English Stilton. The Edam has to come from Holland, whilst the others from here are OK.
As for Costco I am an enthusiastic member as I love sliced (in sandwiches for breakfast, yum) smoked trout and smoked salmon which currently are around $27.00/Kg and comes from Denmark (2 shopping trips and I have paid for my annual membership)
Their meat and fish departments are excellent quality, but the meat trays are rather big, so I purchase frozen fish. I have never checked the cheese section closely but have noticed that those on offer are somewhat large. I wonder if they are evil non-Haram offerings?

Bring your own bags in Aldi! I would have trouble keeping up after they have been scanned, if I bought more than a few items there.
I was in there yesterday. I bought a bag of apples and some tea towels, and a small plastic basket with a handle . When the checkout person put my purchases through she placed all 3 items separately on the end of the checkout. Would have made sense to put the two small items inside the basket.

Yes, there is an ever diminishing amount of variety in the two big supermarket chains.. Replace good brands and give home brands more space on the shelves (more imported products).
Soft drinks, chips and other junk foods get more space, more promotions.
I got a kilo of apples for $2.79 at Aldi yesterday, Woolies around $6 per kg.
