Joe Hockey's mess is of his own making

The Herald said the Treasurer's was a budget of "myriad broken promises" based on "a highly developed ideological framework".

"All the government has offered this year is an unconvincing narrative replete with broken promises, arrogance in Senate negotiations, mixed signals on the economic outlook and the scapegoating of Labor. "

Eight months on, Mr Hockey and Prime Minister Tony Abbott have still not explained to anyone's satisfaction why they chose to hit the vulnerable and spare the strong.
