Hughes today was sentenced to 10 years 9 months with a minimum of 6 years. Good.

Yes, very hard on his family but if the reports that his wife was told are true, what does that say about her mothering? Yes, things were different then, we now have information we didn't have, there are more avenues to seek help now but really, how could you do nothing?

I wonder how many there are who thought they got away with it and are now realising that they still have to face the consequences of their actions.

I haven't read much about Robert Hughes' family but have been feeling so sorry for Rolf Harris's wife and daughter.

I haven't followed the case as anything against kids infuriates me.
But if I have understood ur post correctly Lis, he was sentenced inline with sentencing way back in the 80"s?

Is that common practice?

this did not happen in the dark ages, it happened in a time where people were speaking up and kids were being taken seriously.

he would have been stopped, the only reason it wasn't reported is because of how much money would have been lost should the show fail - that is just evil.

Yes, it seems so.  The judge said his hands were tied and he had to sentence that way.

The legal system has a lot to be desired and could do with an overhaul so that crimes against children are exempt from retrospectivity.

it was Liz Mullinar, not Liz Hayes, she's the 60 Minutes reporter. Anyway i also find it pathetic some other adults did not speak up or report the abuse. What about the one who plays Betty, she looked VERY uncomfortable in the ACA interviews & i reckon she must've known & is now ashamed for not speaking up when some of her younger cast members did, and so she should be. Not really sure why the producers etc weren't even called as witnesses (as far as i know), they had a duty of care that they breched & should be made accountable.
