It should be reduced to zero.
The credit crisis was – inevitably – the dominant theme of the annual World Economic Forum that concluded in Davos over the weekend. And while other subjects – diversity and culture, the Israel-Gaza conflict, and even Zimbabwe – did get a look-in, there was little said about the opportunity the crisis presents for aid-dependent African countries.
Setting aside the debate on how (or indeed whether) sub-Saharan Africa will be affected in the short term by the ongoing financial turmoil, there is every reason to believe that what is happening could in fact be the best thing for Africa's long-term development prospects.

Aid to Africa or any other country is on Borrowed Money. Money we have to borrow from Chine. We are paying nearly one billion dollars a week to service the debt Labor ticked up.
Also aid to Indonesia, a member of the G20, has had its aid cut by 40%. It should have been scrapped altogether. What is the aid for" to educate people in a wholly Muslim country to like us.

Fantastic... about time we stopped handing out money to these overseas countries...... time it stayed here in australia for australians.
the money we have been handing out we have to borrow anyway so why increase our debt giving money to corrupt govts overseas.

Not all aid is $$$ as in cash.
Some is in military hardware which we can't really do much else with
except give it to places like Sri Lanka (gunboats) and Indonesia (C-130 Hercules with the US's permission). That is all added in to the pie.
But I agree, I think we spend far too much on foreign aid.
Yes we do give military aid to countries. Gillard, in her humiliating efforts to prop herself up, continually pointing to the aircraft we were handing over to Indonesia, 2 aircraft that could have been sold for quite a lot of money and it angered the public at the time. JBY ignored her and the planes.
Giving military aid to a country who is armed to the teeth, why? to a a country who has one of the biggest standing armies, and JBY ignored her and the planes, it was embarrassing to watch, he embarrassed her.
Some aid is political and we should protest about it strongly and not allow it.
Miss Bishop will not be happy.

Er, we can't sell the C-130's without the US Gov't permission and that is unlikely if it cramps their sales
and the US gives C-130's away to countries in the area anyway (at least 2 to the Phillipines).
You can't even give them away without the US's permission !
They were also H models which although still flyable with life left in the airframe, have been twice superceeded
by the J and K Models so they were not exactly "up to date".
Agree re ignored her and the aircraft.
It was tied in with Julia trying to sort out Asylum Seeker policy.
Yes, they are well armed already, just not with air transports !
