Would love some advice on which anti virus is the best.
I have had Norton for several years. The free Avast before that but our computer tech (who originally put Avast on because they used it) picked up a virus on their system & lost all their data so put Norton on for us instead. Last year I renewed it on the net but just tried and it wouldn't work. Several people have told me Norton slows down your computer etc. Which one do you use? I don't mind paying for a good one but free would be great as well.
A friend said the use Microsoft Essentials (or something like that).
Any advice would be appreciated.

My SIL runs software company and he uses Microsoft Essentials. I have been using it for years and never had a problem; it is free.

I had my with our tech guy at work and he also said to get rid of norton. I trust norton and its saved me a couple of times but he said it is very large and clunky for my little lappy. So I will also be watchig to see what others recommend

No single AV program will be perfect all the time.
I have managed to survive on Avast and Stopzilla, the thing that many dont understand is that many AV programs dint stop all spyware and thats where Stopzilla comes in.
I have also used AVG at times

AVG free. no need to pay. when the trial is up and AVG start warning you of impending doom, ignore the warnings because it continues to work and eventually gives up prompting you to pay for further protection and goes back to working as usual.
