Anyone got a soda stream?

I am thinking of getting one. Not for fizzy sugar drinks but simply for soda water which we drink a bit of.

But some questions:

  1. how long does the gas in the cylinder last for?

  2. how much does it cost to refill the gas?

  3. where do you go to refill?

We have one, no longer use it though. The cost was about the same as buying soft drink, less if just unflavoured soda. The benefit was in not running out as usually you have a spare gas cylinder and we lived rural, also the reuse of bottles and not having to dispose of the store bought bottles.

sorry, meant to say, the gas will say the size on it, so 40L makes 40 litres.

You can go to k-mart to get the refills, the novelty wore out here, we have a fridge that filters water and dispenses ice cubes which is used all day long.

Lol! LOVE that idea!! Does it really work??

I like the idea of it. We don't drink sugary softdrinks but we are always running out of soda water. And I hate how may bottles we throw away. So it makes sense.

Have no idea about how cost effective it would be in todays pricing on discount drinks but back in the 80s it was dearer than buying soft drinks from the super market and the way stuff is discounted now I cant see it would be any better today, it was a total scam and waste of money

We have one and set up one for a daughter today so she can have soda water in her pregnancy. Our cylinder lasts 60L and you get them at any Big W, K-mart, Woolies, Coles, Target, Myer stores but usually at the service desk and they are $17 (?) for a swap over. Lots of flavours to choose from including sugar-free and sports drinks.
