We've tried:
* hot, moist compresses
* antibiotic drops
* gentle massage
Tonight we tried the heated spoon (as suggested by the GP).
GP also suggested the antibiotic eye ointment which is being used now.
It's on an upper eyelid and GP has said it will need very minor surgery by the Ophthalmologist, if her ideas don't work in the meantime. Ophthalmologist surgery is booked for a fortnight away, but we are hoping it will resolve before then.
Any experiences from people here?

My daughter suffered dreadfully from styes as a young child. Closed eye etc. Leaving it alone seemed to be the best option

I did used to get stye's a lot in my younger days, I know it's considered an "old wives tale" but the old gold ring did sometimes work.

I think there is something in the 'gold ring' rubbed on a stye also. Maybe for a normal stye though, not this one that has morphed into something worse.
This is from a health fund website.
A stye and a chalazion are easily confused as their symptoms can be very similar. A stye is painful and may have pus in it from an infection. A chalazion is painless and isn't usually infected.
Although they are often confused, a stye and a chalazion are different conditions. A stye is an infection in an eyelash follicle or a gland in your eyelid. A chalazion is a blocked meibomian gland in your eyelid.
A stye and a chalazion may have similar symptoms to start with. Both conditions begin with a red, painful lump on the edge of your eyelid. After a few days, a stye remains painful, especially to touch, whereas a chalazion becomes painless. Another way to tell them apart is that a stye often has a head of pus on the lump, whereas a chalazion never does.
Treatment for a chalazion is similar to a stye. A hot compress on your eyelid will help to remove the blockage and release any trapped fluids. If a chalazion is very large or uncomfortable, or if using a hot compress doesn’t work, you may need to have an operation to drain it.

Thanks.
We are booked in to have it chopped out.
