It was with a priest an enlightened one could have been Father Bob.
I can't find the link showing it but if you can it is a great interview.
His main point was what religion should we teach there are so many different ones practiced in Australia and it is a personal thing of choice in our multi cultural country.

I think an overview of all major religions should be taught in upper primary and high schools. I also think that where there are children of various religions in a school, then their imortant religious festivals should be acknowledged and celebrated in the classroom.

I think it is great that Religious Education is available to students and they have a choice to study it, as is the case in a lot of European countries I did not have that choice as the Communist regime did not allow the freedom of choice and Religious Education in schools was not allowed. Ideally, IMO, Religious Education should be a subject that teaches about different Religions. (My daughter was given an opportunity to learn basics of other Religions when she attended a Catholic primary school)
To remove that choice, well, I hope we never go down that road.

Oh thank God for an intelligent man who can express himself clearly and with so much knowledge.
If the history of religion in Australia was the study, then I think we would be at the beginning of a whole new outlook that would allow for far more understanding of what it's all about.
The history of religion is incredibly interesting and can easily be taken as a study in school, leaving the individual preferences to home and preferred holy place, whatever that might be.
