Anyone see the interview on ABC24 about the dumb idea of religion in schools?

It was with a priest an enlightened one could have been Father Bob.

I can't find the link showing it but if you can it is a great interview.

His main point was what religion should we teach there are so many different ones practiced in Australia and it is a personal thing of choice in our multi cultural country.

Margo a polite question, why do you HATE religion and the church so much? As you do make your opinion and dislike very obvious  in many posts that have a religious overtone or the ones you start.

Is there a religion or a belief that you follow or like or support or do you just dislike all religions and beliefs in general?

I agree with you Margo though It has been taught and still is with parent's consent (or consent is needed now  if not then in any case) in public primary schools in Vic since before I started school in the 70's.

One of the most significant developments in religious education in Australia in the 1970s has been the emergence of new courses in some Government schools where departmental personnel teach religious education as an ordinary part of the curriculum. In addition, some State Departments of Education have taken an important role in curriculum development in religious education. While details of the full range of practice of religious education in Government schools is given in chapter 5. this chapter is concerned with the origin and rationale of the new courses.

izabsmiling I would appreciate if you would refrain from making this personal

The question is a polite one and asked in good faith  to Margo.... please let Margo answer for herself as she is very capable person and very capable  of  replying in a polite intelligent manner to my polite question.

Margos answer may even lead to a brand new general discussion topic that everyone can get involved in....   So again please let Margo answer my polite question for herself....

No I didn't see it but I think religion should be taught about at school. As Donna says, it figures large in History.

nero_wulf I don't hate religion as such I do dislike the human aspect of it.

All religions are headed by a person in many cases a bigot.

I was bought up RC and actually believed in hell till I was 21 went to church every week followed all their bull.

One day I went to confession and the priest would not forgive me if I did not say I would never do something again, I said I can't promise that I can promise to try, no one can promise never.

I walked out and never been back.

Your second question, if I was ever to follow any belief it would be the Jewish Religion, I believe that to be the only one that does not change their rules according to society of the times.

I think what Father Bob said is right give children a bit of a run down on all religions and allow them to choose what suits them or not if none of them do.

Do you know why scientists are all atheists?
