Apparently I am being selfish

Hubby is not happy with me and a couple of my friends think I am being mean.

I have never been a fan of receiving gifts, I would rather see the money spent on the kids or things needed for the house / family. I found out that he had made an order for Valentines Day for a present for me. To me it is a huge waste of money for a commercially created event. I don't need a huge balloon and teddy bouquet. Breaky in bed or even a cuppa together at a cafe is more than enough for me.

Am I being mean ? Am I the only one that feels like this ?

I don't know if it is because in my last marriage I never received anything other than a step machine 6 weeks after our first child was born (Mother's Day) or the air compressor I got for the car for Christmas one year...maybe I just gave up years ago. I really don't know why I feel this way.

We compromised. He knew I wouldn't want him to go all out so he downsized compared to what he wanted to get.

My pressie is lovely and even though I know he loves me anyway, I feel extra loved...

Hubby and I just give each other that special look on vd day.........we have been together for 32 years now but saying that we have the joke pressie.................we call them love biscuits and love chocks LOLOLOL, he gives me a packet of biscuits that catches his eye on the day and a box of favourites and of course we met in the eighties, I get carnations.

I give him a funny card LOL

Giving and receiving is part of marriage... Not everything has to be for the children.

He wants to so share something special with you... 

Are you not going to give him something special for Valentine's day?  

Go on, enjoy choosing something he would love, in return for what he wants to give to you.

It isn't the money, it isn't the commercial day, it is about you and him and no one else...

To refuse this or spoil it is a sad thing to do.

Most likely because you would prefer to spend the money on the kid's or the home, (and to me this tells me the kind of person you are), hubby just thought you deserved something just for you, one frivolous, silly, lovely gift to make you feel special and used V Day as the excuse.

That is pretty much exactly what he said. I spend my time caring for two people with health / physical and mental health issues, volunteer with the homeless and disadvantaged, study fulltime from home and also work with teens with issues...apparently it is about time I get someone looking after me lol.

The irony is, he wouldn't let me get him anything. There was only one thing he wanted he said and he already has that. He also insisted on cooking last night and let me sleep in today. I am going to take him out fishing this afternoon and just have us time in our secret fishing spot.
