Apparently I am being selfish

Hubby is not happy with me and a couple of my friends think I am being mean.

I have never been a fan of receiving gifts, I would rather see the money spent on the kids or things needed for the house / family. I found out that he had made an order for Valentines Day for a present for me. To me it is a huge waste of money for a commercially created event. I don't need a huge balloon and teddy bouquet. Breaky in bed or even a cuppa together at a cafe is more than enough for me.

Am I being mean ? Am I the only one that feels like this ?

I don't know if it is because in my last marriage I never received anything other than a step machine 6 weeks after our first child was born (Mother's Day) or the air compressor I got for the car for Christmas one year...maybe I just gave up years ago. I really don't know why I feel this way.

You are such a lovely lady Trish and it's really very unselfish of you to be thinking that way xx

However, can I just say that life is very short, and you've both been through the mill with the injuries you had and were victorious over which could have had quite a different outcome.

Having said that, and I know I'm beating around the bush a bit ...  :8} .... but he loves you so very very much and therefore, let him ... let him love you very very much.

That's all lovely lady ...  :-x

I do every single day Trish. I am a lucky girl. And it's not just me he spoils. He is very generous all round. He spoils the girls (but not in the trying to win them over kind of way). He is the kind of guy that will go without eating to lend a friend money. I am truly blessed.

Remember that and accept them with joy

or you might turn into a motherly control freak    :^O:^O

Nawwwwwwwwww you made my eyes leak.

I can't believe it is almost 3 years since the fire. My knees are no longer purple. And Kieran's legs are looking amazing. You can't notice our facial scarring at all now. Even the emotional scarring is healing well.

Even though we spend pretty much all day every day together, we still aren't sick of each other lol. Sickening I know. It's hard for me to let my guard down, even still.

I just kinda fell into the habit of having to preserve every single cent for fear of not knowing where each dollar was coming from or going to. So many times we didn't have money for baby formula etc. And then to leave and be able to pay cash for a car within 3 months...

I guess old habits die hard don't they.

But if I let him he would buy one of everything in the shops. I already have two gold watches and he was looking at others the other day for my upcoming birthday.

I do think you're being mean (sorry).

I love any chance to give or receive a gift!  This also is a family habit of hours - any excuse for gift giving!

I love celebrating other cultures holidays, as it's another excuse to give gifts!

Valentines day is just romantic!

We celebrate as many as we can!

everything, I am a bit like you I don't like money spent on me, my OH is the love of my life and loves spending money on me as I rarely buy anything for myself  Over the 26 years we have been married I have learnt to accept every gift with grace.

When I see the look of sheer delight in his eyes when I give him a kiss and hug and say how much I love it and thank you, it is priceless

Enjoy you Valentines Day and remember everything you get is because you are one of the lucky ones that has someone in your life that loves you and wants to spoil you.

Yes the giving is the fun part and having the recipient happy is the reward, its better to give than receive

Trish, take it from an old chook who has been married for a long time, nearly 50 years. Accept the gift in the spirit that it is being offered, you do not want the hurt that a refusal will cause to come back to bight you in an argument in the future.  You have a keeper there!

That's not the same for everyone.  My OH & I never give each other gifts on birthdays or Christmas by mutual agreement...instead we cook each other a nice dinner & put the money into things we want to do together, rather than receive.

We bought a second hand caravan about 6 months ago, and we're doing it up together....so whatever is spent on that instead, adds up to one great big mutual present = a holiday together.

I dont think you are being mean and I see your point, but if he wants to do something special for you or has done, accept it with the love that it has been sent with.

Wish my OH was like yours, this afternoon on the way to pick g/son up, we saw an old man about 75ys, he had the biggest bunch of flowers and he looked so proud to be taking them home.

I said to OH, that is so sweet that at his age he still buys flowers, then we saw another man, not as old, but a senior, and I made a comment on that too, saying how nice it was they still thought of their partners that way.........I glared at my OH who said nothing and then he said * if you want flowers, pick yourself a bunch from the front garden*X-(

So, consider yourself one lucky lady!
