The companies are covering up to $20,000 for the procedure and annual storage costs, NBC said, citing sources at the Silicon Valley firms.

"We continue to expand our benefits for women, with a new extended maternity leave policy, along with cryopreservation and egg storage as part of our extensive support for infertility treatments," Apple said in a statement.

Around one third of women aged 35-39 have fertility problems and the proportion increases to 64 per cent when women are between 40 and 44 years old.

Don't know why ppl can't have their kids when they're young and at their most fertile, raise their kids themselves to at least school age, then re-enter the workforce.

By that time the experience they've gained in problem solving , diverse personalites(kids, hubby), and managing a household makes them a much better eemployee than some ditzy young person straight out of school that just wants to get through the working week and get paid so they can party all weekend.

Just sayin'.

Agree with you, Icy.

When I was in my mid-30's a prospective boss accepted my application(and appropriate workplace qualifications) for the reasoning that I had run a household - therefore I could run his office.  Mature women were considered the best workers.

ummm maybe because for so many women thats not an option? Some never have a "most fertile" period.

Some decide they want some security money/house/partner before they have kids.

Some people have not met the person they want to have children with

Its a dumb thing anyway seeing as egg defrosting is so finicky and generally doesnt work and isnt practised in Australia, only sperm and embryos are frozen here. Its why you need fresh donors
