Are asylum seekers being processed on Manus?

Or are they being told there is no hope regardless of their circumstances.

I am so disappointed in our Government, allowing this to happen. The eyes of the world are on us.

I'm sure you've noticed that all those women have been carefully placed so that the TV viewers know that abbott "gets" women, especially those with secks appeal.   Who is the one with the duck-bill (collagen) mouth.

Why do I think what is such a huge issue? The riot and the young man's death?

It is a huge issue, don't you think? Or haven't you been keeping up?

Why do you think keeping our borders securely out of the reach of boat people is such a huge issue?

We get very few of the world's asylum seekers landing on our shores, yet we seem to want to isolate ourselves from the global problem and make a huge drama out of it, while treating the people as if they're less than human.

spot on!  It's the i'm alright jack mentality.  The get in the queue mentaility. They don't see these people as the same as themselves, as having the same basic rights to live a life of freedom without fear.

Abbott is perfectly framed by 5 women when he speaks, including Chrissie.

http://www.smh.com.au/comment/we-need-to-see-manus-island-20140224-33bk1.html

When it comes to imprisoned Australian journalists in Egypt, Prime Minister Tony Abbott believes in free speech.

For his hand-picked human rights commissioner, Tim Wilson, free speech is the fundamental human right without which “the capacity to defend all other rights is diluted.”

But for those in detention and those seeking to talk to them, there is no such right.

This government now actively blocks journalists from accessing the Manus Island detention centre, or indeed any detention centre in Australia, and deletes journalists' photos.

Journalists on Manus are not allowed to approach the centre or photograph asylum seekers' horrific injuries.
