Are you a Feminist?

I'm a bloke.

I also don't need to find validation in CS.

But a real bloke would actually put his viewpoint out there upfront, rather than framing his opinions on what others say.

Which you don't do.

Others can decide what that says about you.

Well I'm female.

Am I feminist?

Based on the description in the 70s probably not.

So what does being a feminist mean nowadays?

I thought back then, it used to mean equality.

Isn't it more about male bashing now?

Back iin the 70s they seemed to me to quite militant.  I couldn't be bothered.

My parents raised me with the expectation I would get a good education of a higher level than in my mother's time (university if possible), qualify for a job that was not the standard secretary or teacher (my mother was a secretary who would rather have been a doctor), learn to drive a car (my mother didn't drive) and of course own a car, and have a level of independence whether I married or not.  That all seemed fine to me.  The nuns at the schools I attended were of the same mind.

Unfortunately other ideas of being female were carried over from the 50s and so unlike my brother who got away with murder, if I tried to occasionally dodge washing the dishes, making my bed and a host of other trivial domestic chores I got punished.  When I remonstrated with my parents with the shining example of my brother not getting any repercussions their answer was, 'Well he's a boy.  You're just jealous.'  To which I replied, 'Too right I am!'  LOL

After that I decided I was not going to be anybody's domestic goddess with the result that when I did marry my hubby found out I couldn't cook and didn't care less if the house wasn't dusted every day.  On the plus side I was good with money, took care of most of the bills and was able to save for a deposit on a house.  I also bought most of the furniture.....all on a fairly low wage (despite having qualifications - from TAFE not Uni.  LOL).

I don't know if there's more male bashing now (unless you are talking about the Me To movement).  There was a LOT of male bashing in the 70s for sure.

Frankly today there is more 'people bashing' thanks to the trolls on social media.  It seems to me no one can make a comment without someone calling them out on some trivial point.  There was a woman on A Current Affair talking about her grievances with a franchise company.  On social media there were loads of males making derogatory comments on her looks than addressing what her grievance was about.  And just to even things up, some women took the same path to attack her.  The behaviour of these people was pathetic....and I see it all the time online.

IMO, now is not a mostly male bashing time......it's a time when anyone and everyone are fair game, more's the pity.

I don't have to have an opinion of whether I am or not, according to my grandchildren. I was good at my job and received equal respect and equal pay. I also expected a gentleman to open the door and retrieve things I couldn't reach. Fortunately, I worked with gentleman. Also fortu
nately, they made good coffee, unlike me. ๐Ÿ™‚
