In war ....a  fierce battle ....  isn't it kill or be killed?  I don't think it's so much a question of heroism but survival.

If you caricature what a soldier does in its simplest form, they aren't really that special are they? It's merely just a case of self preservation right?

I always wonder what the soldiers in WW1 believed in. Did they believe that invading Turkey is protecting Australia?  Does anybody here actually know what the whole war was about?

There was a fascinating program on the SBS last year; it was over several weeks and documented personal stories of people from number of countries who fought on different fronts.

A good portion of them signed up for the wages.

Not talking Gallipoli here, WW1 in general.

A good portion of them signed up for the wages.

Your proof of that is?

Because it's still happening now. It's call incentive. I don't have proof for then but is it so hard to believe?

So, you were referring to a few family members and that translates to a  lot of soldiers signed up because of  the wages. Right.

The majority of people who starts any new job, are doing it for the wages/salary.

Yes, it is hard to believe.. where is the evidence?. Did anyone survey the men at that time? Now people are just creating their own theories about it.

How many signed up because they wanted to fight for their country vs those who only went to get a wage?

You know the expression, quit while you're behind?

Some should take that advice.

You have no proof what you claimed is true. Why would you expect others to believe it, just because you claimed it?

The 'friends list' comment, is 100% inaccurate as well. False assumption no 2.
