Are you prepared to work until you are 70?

There is no way I will be. I am not planning to work beyond 55!

But it won't affect people like me will it? I have my own plans and they will be self funded.

So once again, it will be those less fortunate and less able to take care of themselves who will suffer.

Twice now it has been said on this thread that the industrial revolution is over, it isn't. In some countries it hasn't even begun. In Australia while the pace has certainly slowed it isn't over. New ways of production are being "invented" all the time.

The notion that we will become a nation of sitters and paper shufflers is pure fantasy. Are we going to produce absolutely nothing here and have no manual work what so ever.

So what countries will we become totally reliant upon for our very existence? What happens if these relationships falter, for any reason. Globalisation it seems is fine for capital but some of us certainly don't want the same freedoms for people, not in Australia anyway - not enough room or resources - remember.

Are we going to import all of our manual labour, using them until they die or just send them home when they become unproductive? Are we going to be doing  this while at the same time refusing entry to refugees and asylum seekers, do we think that these countries where people are fleeing now, will be the same forever, do we think that the rest of the world will forget our treatment of refugees and fall over themselves to supply our every whim, always and forever.

It seems some notions come straight out of a 99 cent science fiction paperback from the sale table, I would be asking for a refund.

and by the way, the Russian Federation is capitalist.

Exactly, boris, it's ludicrous to think all Australians could do desk jobs and own businesses, whilst importing every manufactured good.

But that's probably what you get if you have devout, unquestioning belief in 3 word slogans and hard right ideology.

And I'm really curious about this

There is a new field and a new occupation being created every 6 to 8 hours

what new fields and new jobs are being created every 6 to 8 hours?

just have a look at the advancements in things such as intellectual property, gene technology, supply chain distribution, criminology, the health abd fitness industry, as I type there is an entire new field being set up for the management of the **bleep** of deceased persons.

yes, some of those are resonably new fields. some have been around for a few years but would not employ vast amounts of people,  i don't think new fields are being created every 6 -8 hours ~Is there an article or link to this??

the main growth industry is in aged care, and yet funding has been cut and the workers are fairly low paid

New occupation created every 6-8 hours? Eureka i have it...lots and lotsof people are becoming newly unemployed.

New fields are opening up as we post, being a bigot - although this hasn't been ratified yet, and new opportunities for financial fraud are just two that I can think of.

Here is the reality. No one is forcing people to wait until they are 50, 60 or even 70 and beyond to retire. We can retire at any age we want to. But the last government told you that they're not going to pay for it until you're 67, this government is apparently shifting that payment to 70 and in the future it will probably raise to a higher age or be phased out completely.

But whatever age we retire at, it's worth nothing if you can't feed and house yourself on the money available to you.

so either hang out until the gov will pay you the pittance they deem acceptable, or take responsibility (where possible - I know there are those that can't) and provide for yourself.

The population is no longer aging, it has aged. And we simply don't have the money to pay sufficient money for those older people to live on.

so isn't it better that they remain in the workforce where they can maybe earn a bit more money than the measly sum our govts hand out to us?

Another thing to remember is that the younger generations have built in contributions into super funds and will not be so reliant on the government for pensions when they retire.  Does the policy idea include increasing the age people can access their preserved super funds?

The percentage of people relying on pensions will decrease rather than increase so why is there a need to force people who are worn out to continue working?

It just all seems to be just another means of brainwashing the people into thinking we're broke, we're going to hurt you, and it's all Labor's fault.
