Long over due and the only people that will be crying is the lawyers that were bleeding the system  and the bleeding heart lefties..

Why should our tax  money pay for illegals with no papers to rort the system

Well done Scott Morrision

TAXPAYERS will save $25 million a year after the Abbott government today scraps free immigration assistance to asylum seekers.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison last night said Australia’s protection obligations did not extend to providing free immigration help to those who arrived in Australia illegally.

He said, as promised before the election, that from today, people who arrived illegally by boat or air would no longer be helped through the Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme.

But he said the withdrawal of the taxpayer help would not prevent people receiving legal assistance, saying those who wished to provide immigration advice and application assistance pro bono were free to do so.

The government continues to roll out its Operation Sovereign Borders suite of policies after notching at the weekend 100 days without a successful people smuggling venture making it to Australia. The government expects the withdrawal of the free assistance will save the budget $100 million over four years

If people choose to violate how Australia chooses to run our refugee and humanitarian program, they should not presume upon the support and assistance that is provided to those who seek to come the right way, and they should certainly not receive additional assistance, as they did under the previous government,’’ Mr Morrison said.

‘‘Services that have commenced will be completed, but the IAAAS will not continue for any additional part of the process that would incur an additional fee

And only think how much more we could save if we scrapped medical assistance, too. In fact, once these criminals are safely ocked away on Manus Island without access to lawyers, doctors or journalists, we would only have to stop feeding them and all our problems would be permanently solved.

And of course, after about twelve months we'd have saved enough money to do away with Manus Island altogether and build a purpose designed terminal facility in Darwin.

Wow she ele and AZ, I almost passed out with rapture at reading your brilliant ideas.

Perhaps the green army can provide medical expertise to the disabled, unemployed, elderly and inedible animals that will be held in Manus island concentration camp.

After tony digs up the forests

Then the green army plants some attractive traffic-safe palms to replace them

They'll have no further use to our economy, so send them to manus!

Together, we're saving australia.

some words from some "bleeding heart lefties".................

The Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce

We are often driven by our fears and our confusion to give assent to ‘solutions’ which punish rather than protect. Through the national debates around asylum seekers, we have seen the best of the Australian national character – generosity, hospitality, practical care and deep compassion, and the worst of our nation – political opportunism, mean-spiritedness and fear of outsiders.

As Christians called to love our neighbour, welcome the stranger, challenge unjust systems and offer refuge and care to those who are marginalised and in exile, we have a particular responsibility in our society when it comes to responding to issues related to asylum seekers and refugees.

  • people do not generally flee their home, their family, friends and community and undertake perilous journeys without very good reason;
  • asylum seekers who arrive on our shores should be welcomed and offered appropriate care in the community (once initial health, security and identity checks have been done) while their protection claims are assessed;
  • that asylum seekers (consistent with their human rights and Australia’s obligations under international law) should have their claims for protection processed in a fair, transparent and timely manner and that they should have access to review of their case should protection be denied;
  • asylum seekers and refugees should be able to find hope and restoration from the despair and persecution from which they have fled;
  • Australia’s policies relating to asylum seekers should be driven by bipartisan commitments to a humanitarian response focussed on protection needs, meeting our obligations as a signatory to the Refugees Convention and other international treaties and covenants and working productively in our region over the long-term to ensure that people in neighbouring countries feel safe, can see a future for themselves and are treated justly as their claims for refugee status are assessed;
  • asylum seekers who arrive by boat should not be used for political point scoring;
  • punishing a vulnerable group of people (asylum seekers) in order to send a message to another group of  people (people smugglers and other asylum seekers) is abusive;
  • government policies should not deliberately expose people to harm;
  • asylum seekers in the community should have the right to work so that they can support themselves and their families;
  • under no circumstances should children be held in closed immigration detention centres;
  • no-one should be detained indefinitely without charge and without the right to challenge their detention;
  • refugees should be able to be reunited with their families; and
  • as one of the wealthiest, safest and most secure countries in the world, we should be able to fund a humanitarian response to asylum seekers without taking money away from our overseas aid commitment.

What a shame none of our inedible animals are carnivores.
