Yet no one here has any problems with Australians doing work for the dole that has no OH&S requirements.
Josh Park-Fing was killed at work for the dole and many other people are injured daily

Part of my previous work involved OH&S matters.

Legislation only reduces work related accidents, it does not completely stop them.

Work for the Dole is something i have never agreed to. using people as cheap labour just because they cant find work is slavery in my eyes.

if there is real work that needs doing then offer, dont demand with menaces, the jobs to the unemployed with full pay and conditions.

this country was once a leader in showing the world we cared for our citizens but john howard took what he began under malcolm fraser (dole bludgers was a term often used during frasers time in power) and created a Us & Them culture where people on the dole were the cause of all our problems.

howard then expanded it to imagrants/boat people.

and it worked, we became a society of greedy 'its mine and you cant have its'

didnt help that at the same time we started getting bombarded with TV shows where if you didnt stack up or pull your weight you got voted off the island (or whatever the place was you were in)

and hey, look at the USA, they turned government into a reality show and dont they cheer when the big guy "FIRES SOMEONE"

David,

My youngest son was working for the dole, I thought it was good for his esteem

(after he had been through a rough event and was unable to work)

As a result of him doing it,  he was offered a job as a supervisor at the company he was sent to.

He now oversees others that work for the dole.

If my son had not worked for the dole, he may not have the job he has now.

He is now certified in a couple of areas with OH&S.

I am aware of a Govt department that pays zero wages to people until they finish their training.

Some of these people may take 3 to 4 weeks to pass the training.

trav, work for the dole doesn't have to be OH&S compliant.
So what is in place for those doing work for the dole?
Nothing, death and injury with no recourse.
The government believes that there are two classes of people. Lifters and leaners and as far as they are concerned if a leaner dies. Stiff shyte

i'm not saying the unemployed shouldnt get work from the government, just pay them the going rates with ALL the benifits while they do it.

and dont make it compulsory.

i think if you tell an unemployed person if they take up doing 'work for the dole' they will get full wages and cover for injury ect then people would put their hands up for it.

its the fact the dole is proven to be sub minimum wage and then the govt wants them to work for it thats the problem with me.

The people who participate in the work for the dole are not covered by the host employers workers compensation.

They are covered under a personal accident insurance via the Fed Govt, and was done through a Broker, whether it

is still by a Broker I cannot answer.

Technically the people are employed by the govt and are not regarded as an employee of the host employer.

The host employer has the same responsibilities to the person as he would with other employees, and must

ensure that the workplace and work the person is doing meets OH&S (now the WH&S,work health & safety) regs

under the relevant legislation and requirements of the program.

The job active provider (employment agency) must check that the activity is safe and prepare a written risk assessment.

There is legislation around this and proceedures to report any breaches.

Well as someone that has done work for the dole and can say that none of what you claim actually happens in the real world.
Work for the dole has to be for a non profit organisation.
I know because for a couple of years I didn't have to do it because no organisation out here wanted dole bludgers until the show grounds committee put their hand up.
Most of the time was spent moving a stack of wood around which taught me nothing and then I was forced to dig a big hole until I had a hypo and was threatened with physical violence by the old peanut in charge.
I was meant to be painting due to being a diabetic with heart disease.
I made a complaint to my EC about what happened.
It was a total joke.
When I started no one knew that I was even meant to be there.
Two guys spent more time smoking cigarettes than doing anything else.
One guy was assigned "supervisor" and sat on his bum all day watching us "work" because he was over fifty, well so am I.
Work for the dole is mainly a waste of taxpayers money and one success story doesn't justify it.
Josh Park-Fing is dead and many others have been injured and forced to keep attending.
Josh Park-Fing had sent his father a text only shortly before he died expressing concerns about his safety.
I have done work for the dole.
No one can convince me that it is any good.
I did it during the John Howard era and had to work twelve hour days in a private company for five dollars a day and made that greedy pig thousands and he would drag me out and show me off as his "five dollar a day man"
How is that helping people's esteem.
Your son was lucky the rest of us are being s c r e w e d

Actually I take back about him being lucky.
I myself would rather kill myself than have anything to do with work for the dole
