For anybody who might be interested, I contacted the phone number for my State in the OP because I recognised the number. It was our State Health Department. I read out the paragraph in the Australian EMERGENCY notice. The person I spoke with said it was not correct and cautioned me to be careful about misinformation.
She stated people who are feeling unwell with coronavirus-like symptoms should go straight home. If the person is very unwell or if it is an emergency then call 000. If not, the person should monitor the situation. If the person needs to communicate with a health professional, the person should do what they would normally do i.e. phone your GP, local hospital etc., not the communicable disease control branch. She stated these guidelines are available on the Govt. Health websites for each State.
Thanks for the OP Joz because I now know exactly what to do if anyone close to me becomes unwell.
