I can't speak for all churches, but I can speak with reference to some that follow either Catholic or Baptist principles. (Hope that's the right word). IMO, they contribute financially, far more to Australian society than any revenue raised through an equitable tax on their income could.
I don't believe that personal drug use should be decriminalized. The law is there to protect the stupid and those who can't protect themselves. Some people may be able to use drugs in a responsible manner, but not everyone can and until they can make it illegal to be stupid, they need to implement laws to protect the stupid.
I do believe that theoretically, voluntary euthanasia should be legal, but as there are so many avenues for abuse, I think that legalizing it will unleash an uncontrollable phenomenon. Therefore, I don't believe that it is a responsibility that society in general has the ability to handle.
I agree with same gender union, and believe that such relationships should be recognized before the law on an equal footing to heterosexual unions, but I do not believe in same gender marriage, simply because I do not believe in changing the meanings of words. They need to find another word.
I have no problem with data retention for use by authorities or law enforcement. But then, I have nothing to hide.....
Uniform cencorship should be imposed. I agree with that. Communication Technologies have eliminated State boundaries.
I do believe that religion should be taught in the public system, Not just one though, all of the major religions and belief systems. I do however think that Christianity should be taught as a platform belief system from an academic viewpoint. Christian Principles form the basis of our Legal system, so i think it is important for people to understand from where our law has evolved. Additionally, it provides something for which other belief systems can be compared and evaluated. I also believe that people need to learn how the book that is commonly known as the Bible originated. Who correlated it, who decided what went into it and what was left out of it, the political, social and economic climate and system at the time etc etc etc.
I think Private schools should be free to focus on one religion, but that a vertical general religious class also be taught.
I don't think that mj should be legalized, regulated or taxed, but then I also believe that tobacco and alcohol should also be illegal. The argument "but ciggies and booze are legal and they're worse than the mj" just doesn't fly with me. None of it should be legal.
I don't agree with the anti discrimination policy that they propose. The facts are that not all jobs and industries are suitable for all people and when you start to interfere with how they work best, it does nothing but weaken and destabilize an industry,
I also believe that legalizing abortion will open up avenues for abuse, however I have no objection to it in theory if used correctly.
Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.
