BLOKES THREAD-aimed at blokes-shielas welcome.

Any Queenslanders here?   Hope everyone stays safe.

I have a friend whose flight back to Darwin from NZ on Friday is via Brisbane so I hope Alfred turns out to be a fizzer.

I mentally filled quite a few sand bags today.

Stay safe Queensland and NSW.

Nambour appears to be suffering from massive flooding as a result of Alfred. 393 mm of rain falling over the Diamond Valley - thatโ€™s ridiculous.

More rainfall and flooding expected.

Towns blocked off; roads inundated; power off; food needed; insane winds; flash flooding.

And thatโ€™s with a downgraded ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred; imagine if it had stayed at category two instead of dropping down to category one.

BLOKES THREAD-aimed at blokes-shielas welcome.

Nowโ€ฆ less drastic โ€ฆ

The microwave died a few days ago.

My beautiful burgundy-red microwave - it just gave up the ghost.

We dashed over to HN with 10 minutes to spare, and bought one of those 42 litre snart inverter microwaves. It fits in the cavity where the previous one sat, but insufficient room for proper airflowโ€ฆ so Iโ€™m going to have to get new kitchen cupboards in that space. (Weโ€™ll wait until we have the oven replaced as itโ€™s in the same area.)

Microwave cart needed. I have had my eye on a gorgeous one for a couple of years -  Catskill Craftsmen in the US, and P of K used to have them, imported from the US. They no longer do, so I thought Iโ€™d see if I could buy directly and get it forwarded here. Oh noโ€ฆ theyโ€™ve just closed down for โ€œunavoidable reasonsโ€.

But it didnโ€™t stop me. I tracked down the model that I wanted from a store in the US.

And in the meantime weโ€™re improvising.

Today Ichabod disgraced himself at the bottom of the stairs. Mum accidentally stepped into the evidence; I called out a warning which only served to get the door loosening from her grip and smacking into the huge framed artwork I was moving. Snack shatter tinkle aaagh! Glass everywhere - dangerous long shards with menacing points, jagged pieces in odd shapes, smaller bits, tiny sparkling splinters everywhere, all over the floor.

Operation wee-mopping and operation glass-removingโ€ฆ while mum was told not to walk anywhere as I needed to clean the bottom of her boots.

The glass was so intimidatingโ€ฆ so much of it! I used my sharps-proof gloves, dustpan and brush, rubbish claw thing, and large box. Vacuuming still needed, I think, but Iโ€™m exhausted.

This solid wooden unit is ideal for small kitchen appliances, dinnerware, utensils and more, thanks to its butcher block top and hutch, adjustable internal shelf, cabinet storage and more. Plus, the locking casters allow you to move your Cart to wherever you please in the home.

Microwave Cart features:

  • Made in the USA.
  • Made from sustainably sourced hardwood.
  • Warp-resistant hardwood veneer side panels, back panel and interior shelves.
  • Solid wood doors, drawer, table top, shelf, braces and legs.
  • Butcher block top and hutch.
  • Oiled finish.
  • Metal drawer gliders.
  • Adjustable internal shelf.
  • Towel bar.
  • Drawer, open shelf and cabinet storage.

Itโ€™s not plywood - itโ€™s solid timber. Everything about it is strong and good quality.

I was just wondering, would your new microwave fit on the actual bench part?

It looks awfully high up on the top.

I know on one of my facebook groups, there are people who need special carts etc for their thermomixes & accesories and a lot have gone for the Bunnings metal trolleys. They are quite expensive and sturdy but have to admit, they have a very industrial look (as they were built for tools). Would not suit every home, that is for sure.
