The secret appointment of Barrie Cassidy to the so called "independent" Museum of Australian Democarcy.

Well we all know he was Hawkes man but proof he is of the left, in Labors pocket & totally biased in his position on the ABC as chief political commentator with his own show The Insiders, is now out there for all to see, as if they didn't already know that.

they seem to think that everyone is against them if they dont swallow everything the LNP say. a journalists brief is to present balance, but i guess with the murdoch domination they have never seen such a thing .

So Cassidy didn't work for The Australian? He didn't resign his Labor party position in protest against Keating? He doesn't admire Fraser? He didn't kick the **bleep**s of Labor politicians on his program as well as the Liberal politicians?

Which bit of the above is inaccurate?

And back to the ABC - while the Liberal Party bleat on about how 'left' the channel is, the board is continually stacked with right winged Liberal supporters in the hope of changing a 'percieved' left leaning where none exists.

Many years ago, Howard personally appointed Donald McDonald to the board to 'sort it out'. Jeanette and Janet McDonald were best friends and McDonald was a close friend of Howards. Right at the beginning he made it clear that he would not accept any bias (left or right) in the organisation and was immediately on the war path to remove the then MD (Shier) who was causing (right winged) chaos for the broadcaster.

He also made it known that the appointment of the various (right winged) members had been disastrous for the ABC.

And he was right. The Howard government installed totally innapropriate (right winged) people throughout his time as PM. His govt even installed Janet Albrechtsen to the board for goodness sake. And lets not forget Kroger.

The fact is that the ABC boards and executive has ALWAYS been stacked heavily to the right.

Would you care to list the inaccuracies in Martini's post  - I'll repost it here, just to make it easy for you.

Cassidy is a good example.

Firstly, I have never seen bias on his part. He is equally critical and equally praising of both side of politics. Perhaps if you had watched the show regularly then you would realise this.

Secondly, if anyone bothered to look a little more closely they would find that he admits to being a great admirer of Bob Hawke. But he also admits to being a great admirer of Mal Fraser. At the same time, he is scathing (and always has been) of Keating. A Labor lackey? I don't think so.

Thirdly, Cassidy has The Australian blood running through his veins. You can't get more right winged than that.

Fourthly, given the swiftness with which Abbott has removed other people from their positions that he thought were 'Labor government appointments' or 'anti Liberal crusaders', he has left Cassidy in this job. Why? Perhaps because even he is smart enough (and that says something) to see that Michael Smiths ramblings (which is where this rubbish story started) is a load of codswallop.

But look. I understand. It's hard to believe that other news and media outlets can be unbiased if all you ever read is The Australia or the Daily Telegraph. Or if you only ever listen to Andrew Bolt. Or you only ever watch A Current Affair. But trust me, there are journalists (real ones, not pretendy Bolt ones or ones hiding behind editorials) that are actually doing their jobs properly. You just have to look away from Murdoch every now and then to see it lightening.

I heard today on the news that Barry Cassidy was appointed whilst the Labor government was in caretaker mode. Isn't that against the rules?? making appointments whilst in caretaker mode??
