NEWCASTLE Knights NRL footballer Ryan Stig has received backlash from angry social media users following a controversial rant about homosexuality and gay marriage.

The half-back uploaded a letter on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter that compared homosexuality to alcoholism and a "politically correct charade" that was equal to a "spiritual disease" and "demonic".

The other day I got into an argument with some guy over god being not male but female. I got him so upset (lol) that he started ranting on about gays and if it was natural everyone would be gay 😕
He walked away after what I said next 😄 he would want to hope that we never cross paths again.....
