Trade unions royal commission: Julia Gillard's lawyers urge against adverse findings regarding former PM
Lawyers for former prime minister Julia Gillard have written to the royal commission into trade unions urging it not to make any findings that are adverse or critical of her.
Late last month counsel assisting the commission Jeremy Stoljar said he did not believe Ms Gillard had committed any crime in relation to an alleged corrupt slush fund operated by her ex-boyfriend Bruce Wilson.
But Mr Stoljar said some aspects of Ms Gillard's professional conduct as a solicitor "appear questionable" and it was likely she did receive money from Mr Wilson for her home renovations, despite her repeated denials.

Julia Gillard, president of the Australian Union of Students one moment and then sadly reduced to someone claiming to be “young and naive”. Will the Royal Commissioner accept that defence? Is there any chance of a peccavi escaping the pursed lips of the bird of paradox?
