Abbott said what he thought and he said it plainly, that some of Hawke's key achievements were more Liberal than Labor in character.

And you could argue that it reflects the sign of a great leader (Hawke, not Abbott) and a genuine desire to do what is right for the country - better government for more of the people by stepping outside the party lines.

Generally speaking, these days, I don't believe politians have the guts or inclination to address the needs of the country as a whole but are more concerned with their own survival and sticking to party lines.

I'm very sorry to hear that you feel that way.  It's a horrible feeling, isn't it.

I certainly don't wish you would die, in fact I wish for you to find happiness and contentment in your life.

I may not always agree with your opinions, as you wouldn't always agree with mine, but that's life.

Please don't be so down on yourself, it's no good for you or anyone around you.

Well I don't.  I think you are just as valuable as anyone else.  I've never seen you post anything to attack anyone else, so I'm glad you are here ... xxxx

both parties are controlled by the election cycle, making long term plans are great but there is a good chance they wont be around in 2 terms time so they try to stick to quck fix ideas.

look at the submarines, with all the carry on deciding who to get to build them they used un almost a full election cycle, now we are at the next election and cracks are showing in the contracts.

hence 'the fixer' payne has jumped ship, doesnt want to be around when we (the people) are left paying millions to the french when the contract gets torn up.

Pyne was too scared of losing to hang around.
At least this way he'll always be a winner.
The smartest thing I've ever seen him do

While on Abbott,

yesterday two of his campaign members were attack by a 62 year old man for putting posters up.

One was stabbed in the stomach with a cork screw.

The man has been charged with common assault.

What ever party one supports or dislikes, this is not the way to vent your anger.

cant condone any violence

but not enough is known about this to make informed comment.

could be a political attack or could be something nothing to do with politics.

hope the fellow is ok

glad they caught the person

Martinw, one day you will die. So will the rest of us. No one here is getting out alive.

My own belief (fear) is that after this life, there is nothing. So make the best of the time we have here & don't wish your time away. That's my philosophy, anyway. No need to hurry towards death as it will come to you.

As for the idea that the world might be a better place without certain people. You know, I don't think it makes much difference in most cases. Sure, there are some major players in history eg Hitler, where the world may have been well served by an early bullet.

But on the whole, the world doesn't become all that different when most people come and go. Small changes.

I don't look forward to death at all but I've come to see things like this: We're all here, at differrent stages in life, to do what we can but no one, neither the very good or the very bad, the very rich or very poor, will live forever. This is so that no one person's influence lasts forever. The world gets a fair go.Smiley Happy

So find out what you can do for others while you can.Smiley Happy

i think as you get old (er) you notice old people more and what their lives are like once being fit n able moves to requiring help with life.

now we have a royal commission into aged care and the many horror stories.

knowing i have a fairly short time before i'm in that boat i hope things get much better before i have to sell up and go into care.

anyone who visits or has visited a friend or relative in a home would know 'that' smell.

but of course when you are breathing it 24/7 you prolly dont notice.
