Police and child welfare agencies are investigating the discovery of a four-year-old boy with methylamphetamine at an Osborne Park childcare centre yesterday.
Staff at Tuart Hill Baby and Childcare Centre found the child carrying a clip-seal bag of white powder about 9am.
They took it from him and called police about 11am.
Early tests found the substance was methylamphetamine. It is not believed the boy or any other child ingested the dangerous powder.
Police are now trying to establish where the drugs came from and last night they joined the Department for Child Protection and Family Support to interview one of the boy's parents.
Joy Robustellini-Kocar, the owner of the Main Street centre, said the incident had been upsetting.
"The staff have followed correct procedures and contacted authorities and it's in their hands now," she said.
"All the children are safe and there's nothing to worry about at all."
Police have not revealed the amount of methylamphetamine seized and further tests will be done to determine its purity

Could have been found at the childcare centre. Children are rarely allowed to go to their bags to retrieve something at a centre.

How come it took 2 hours between finding it and calling the police?

I thought it to be a typing error and should have read police called at 11am

The owner of the centre, says the incident is upsetting but she has praised staff for following all procedures.
"Very upsetting for all of us and we would respect privacy for the centre and for all the families concerned," she said.
"Staff have followed correct procedures, it's in the authorities' hands."
The Department of Child Protection and Family Services has issued a statement saying it is interviewing a parent of the boy and will conduct a safety and wellbeing assessment as a priority.
Police are expected to interview the boy's parents this evening.
