Boycott Bali

If the horrific murder of two Australians is carried out then we should boycott Bali and all things Indonesian.

We gave over a $billion dollars to this country after the tsunami, we prop then up with foreign aid and they spit in our faces.

They have  ignored all diplomatic attempts to mitigate their sentences and Watta a Joko has now signed the order to send them to the "killing Island" wouldn't want to kill them on Bali now would they, might upset the tourism business.

I'm appalled and disgusted, scared and frightened for these men and heartsick for their families.

I don't think I have seen any posters actually saying execute them?

The reason we are saying no, is because they are Australian and we don't have the death penalty.

I say no because I am against the death penalty under any circumstances.

THE Indonesian government is spending millions of dollars on lawyers and to victims' families to get its citizens off death row in foreign countries despite ramping up its own rate of execution.

EVEN though President Joko Widodo has sent five foreigners and one Indonesian to the firing squad for drug offences so far in 2015 with Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran next on the list, Indonesia continues to pay for leniency in other countries.

I stand with idlewhile here to some extent.   The death penalty has no place in a civilsed society regardless of crime.  The approach by some posters here that they "deserve it" because they knew the potential outcome is intellectually lazy and devoid of compassion.

They remind me of the stories of people knitting at the guillotine.

When these young men are executed (as I am sadly sure they will be) the world will be a slightly darker place. Our collective humanity will be diminished.

As for a boycott ?  I am not so sure this is the right direction.  I certainly won't be setting foot in Bali ever, but that's for different reasons.   Maybe we should be boycotting Jakarta, but sadly there are too many vested interests at play and it will never happen.  Sure, the Ambassador may be recalled, there will be harsh words exchanged, but at the end it'll be back to normal - ""Move on, nothing to see here, can I send you some more beef".

Correct. I have stated I have zero compassion for them.

I reserve that for people who are deserving of it.  People who have, or will suffer, through no fault of their own.

People who choose "suicide missions" are not deserving of my compassion......simple.

There are two Australians facing the firing squad and you want to talk about aid to Indonesia?

They are two heroin smugglers facing the firing squad for smuggling heroin out of a country that clearly says you will be executed if you do that.

Can i ask? What is that you would want done with these guys? Do you want them set free? Kept in an Indonesian prison for life? Brought back to Australia?

Life in Indonesia with them having to make meaningful contribution back into society as reparation.

I think the term "life" could have finite term as in say 30 years, when they could be repatriated to Australia.

Most people agree with idlewhile, but he/she has not been able to see that.  Too busy with other thoughts.  Very sad.
I will repost my post #160

I think you'll find that most here agree with you, but you have been unable to see that through your outrage, IMO.

Rubbish, you and others have made callous remarks re this impending execution and you expect me to laugh it off.

Then you come back with coffee remarks to me and anothers post. Then we are served up   the turn up the volume remarks and the Cheers remarks and the outrage remarks which are all  inappropriat,  I stand by my admonishment of you and others.

If I am outraged its because of the subject of this thread not the people who post on it.

So repeat, and re post your coffee comments rather than trying to besmirch me and my objections and feelings about this very serious subject.

Did they? I thought they didn't actually smuggle anything out. No, not eveyone gets the death penalty.

Life in prison, sentence served and released on probation as others have been.

Argee, especially after the good works and apparent rehab they have gone through with. That prison will be a darker colder lonelier place after this.

State sanctioned murder solves nothing but good works do.

Agree, Atonement and redemption, nobody should be denied that chance. After many years in that Bali hell hole we have seen this with these two men.

Where have I made "callous remarks re this impending execution"?

Where have I tried to besmirch your "objections and feelings"?

Post numbers please.

NB, the other person who was on the receiving end of a "coffee" remark has had the courage to apologise for her misunderstanding.

You, on the other hand, refuse to acknowledge that you misunderstood the posts of several people.

Rubbish, but keep on believing whatever you want to. I don't intend to be sanctioned for standing up for myself against snide remarks and antagonistic innuendo, accusations of outrage and misunderstanding of others remarks! that's what you want to believe and you are entitled to do so but leave me out of it.

You made the coffee remark to me also, after you made it to icyfroth, also the  offensive April 1st comment, you made that also. if it's gone that's not up to me.

I have the courage of my convictions and I put it.  I don't gaslight others by putting my slant on what they posted like you are trying to do  to me.
