Bushfires Already! Not A Good Start!

UPDATED: Firefighters are battling 40 uncontained blazes as 59 bush and grassfires burn across NSW, causing the evacuation of homes and a western Sydney university campus.

NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell has told parliament more than 500 firefighters and 200 appliances are responding and a number of emergency warnings are in place across the state, with four fires at a watch and act level.

The worst blazes are at Tickner Road in Castlereagh, where a 60-hectare grass fire is threatening homes, and a three-hectare fire at Bennett and Richmond Roads in Windsor.

Homes and nearby schools have been evacuated.

There are also fires at Marsden Park, Winmalee, Wollombi, and Leets Vale.

A slow-moving bushfire at Lane Cove has just been extinguished.

Icy it is not good, I work in Chatswood and we have a lot of smoke from a fire in Forestville,  I have been coughing all afternoon.

When I get home I am going to make sure I get the cat boxes up from the garage just in case, my OH and I spent a fair bit of time in the garden this weekend picking up branches and leaves that have come down recently, it is a never ending job and unfortunatly we never got around to getting the stuff of the roof.

It's the same here in Bondi, it stinks of smoke in the garden, huge winds cannot be helping.

....very suss ref. over 50 bushfires burning at the same time.

News last night showed similar problem in USA....fires burning all over the place.

Saw a documentary a while back suggesting that natural disasters were a significant method of raising employment levels.....tradies, hiring of heavy machinery and bringing in an influx of 'money'/spending to an otherwise economically challenged area etc etc etc.

Similar idea to those attempting to start a war overseas but 'keeping it local'.
