tcm - we do have Costco's but only in the major cities like Sydney. None near where I live at present.
There is a rule here that new pharmacies can't open in so many kilometres from an existing one and/or inside or near a supermarket. The Govt has just approved that rule to continue for the next 5 years.
Until that rule is abolished (several Commissions recommend that) we won't get good value on pharmacy products etc.

I loved Walmart when I was in the US.
Here in Melbourne there are two Costco's one in the city and the other at Ringwood.

My weakness is not being able to pass up a good deal, I uasally end up with a bunch of stuff I don't need and lacking the money for the things I do need, wit are uasally regular full price. Walmart is not the good deals place it used to be and kmart is taking the lead over them with their temporary price drop items. Problem with kmart is the deals are not the same from one location to the next. I bought two 27 inch bike tires at the kmart in chillochothee for 4.99 each, all they had left, then went to the portsmouth location and they were 17.99 each, they would not price match their own store even.

one does not have to pay entry fee of $60/annum in any other store than costco.
maybe it's not so much a shop but a social experiment to see who is stupid enough to pay entry fees to be allowed to spend money in a shop.

That's not entirely true...........BiMart, in Oregon, requires you to purchase a membership, but, when I did, over 30 years ago, it was only 3.99, and was for life.
Costco is a bargain if you have a big family, or lots of storage space (including freezer space).......or if you spend a lot of money on electronics. One never leaves there without spending $100............

... I dont think that is right am*3,
Plenty of Malls have supermarkets and pharmacies under the same roof.
we have a new one just up the road from us that has been open about 20mths now. The Pharmacy is right across the doorway of Woolies.
In our main street, a New pharmacy is just 400m down the road from IGA, and one block away from Aldi.
Re Costco: Why anyone would pay $60 to have the privilage to shop in a store, is beyond me. Lucky for me, our closet one is in Canberra... a mere 3hrs drive away!

Did you not bother to read the rationale behind the membership fee immediately above your post? If a family can save $100 or more yearly, it is a good idea. Some folks have to commute from one city to the next for work..........saving 10-15 cents per gallon on gasoline at 15000 miles, that almost pays for the fee in itself.

I go to Walmart all the time and every person I've ever seen there is just like me--decent, clean, appropriately dressed and just trying to get the most for their money. And there's a slew of Walmarts in my state and I've been to just about all of them--including the ones in poor neighborhoods. I've never seen any kind of behavior worthy of a youtube video.

There are a whole lot of Rules and Regulations re the location of Pharmacists. (Customers parking/walking movements are taken into consideration, I am supposing) And The Pharmacists Guild are very worried about Woolworths having pharmacies within their stores.
There are "territories" that an owner of a Pharmacy pays for and has to be approved by Australian Community Pharmacy Authority (ACPA.)
And using those rules, there are pharmacies opening close to Woolies, that will (hopefully) negate an approval of location for any future Woolies' applications for a pharmacy within their stores.
It is not the shampoos and bandaids and sunglasses sales that Pharmacists are worried about, they are just the "would you like chips with that" up-selling scenario.
It is the Pharmacy Product i.e. Prescriptions (PBS) that is the money-maker for a pharmacist. The pharmacists who have to repay his HECs and pay the massive insurances, staff, and paperwork required to run that business.
And it is the money-maker bit, that Woolies wants.
So, in a roundabout way, does this help with the query?
