Professor Mattick said children who regularly drank alcohol had different brain function to those who did not.
''There is increasing evidence that regular exposure to alcohol in young people from early to mid teen years is associated with changes in brain function, in efficiency, in attention.''
He said children who started drinking or using drugs under the age of 18 were at greater risk of becoming alcoholics or escalating their drug use.
Do you believe that changing the drinking age to 21 will make a difference

No, we need to teach kids about the dangers and teach kids about moderation.
When I was young we got no education about alcohol, the drinking age was 21, kids drank till they were sick on stones green ginger or Bacardi etc. We had no information except that we were not allowed to drink. No reasons why, no dangers mentioned or discussed, nothing.
And still there were teen parties and there were still kids throwing up at them or after them.

PS. the only observation I have of midnight closing times are aggro people, peeiissed off about the venue shutting, having a good old punch up on the street nearby.... with a crowd of onlookers.... who may or may not join in the fight.

changing closing time at pubs to address underage drinking ?
much better to do the legal thing and not to serve the under 18's at all.

No point in increasing the drinking age when current laws are not enforced.
Under age drinkers should be taken to lock up and parents made to turn up to bail them out.
I am sure the parents will not like having to go to the police station in the middle of the night to collect their feral kids and will keep a little better control over them and a few kids may spend a day or so in lockup until welfare can collect them and have them listed as at risk children and investigate the family

It would be good if the source could be investigated ..though most probably wouldn't say who gave it to them/how they got it.

Raise the legal drinking age?
Why not make it illegal?
If a percentage of the community cannot control themselves and use in moderation..../ not tolerate alcohol consumption......why not remove it from society and make it illegal.
🙂
which polticians are going to do such a thing ? they are all too scared to lose those votes. besides which prohibition has always failed, its only effect is to make organised crime prosper.. if you look at illicit drug use it doesn't work, it just creates untaxed fortunes for some.
