Can someone explain why anyone would need Macros on the boards?

I've been away for a few days so I may have missed all the question and answer threads although I have done a search but can't find why I would ever need to use macros?

Oh and I still can't get my settings to go to the last post, is this possible? I did try the settings that someone recommended on here last night but it hasn't worked.

Lol, I was just looking for this thread and couldn't find it. I was looking for the grey icon but it had turned into a hot topic.
