Capitalism

An economic system based on the private ownership of capital goods and the private ownership of the means of production. The aim of which is to create those goods and services for wealth generation within the free market.

Is this economic model under which you want to live?

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

Sounds great when people talk about it.

In reality the current system places no monetary value on

-the enviroment (a clean lake that offers people fish to eat  has no value vs the gas/ore around it or under it)

-people (both workers and the people any company effects negatively)

Its like the subject of  discrimnation, it's not a problem until you get the bad end of stick.

People do have a monetary value. People are the means of production.

The question is - why do some get the back end of the stick (with the exception of illness or disability)?

No, people do not.

In some parts of the world people are used as money, those are usually third world countries.

Certain individuals with key skills may have value to any workforce, but that is a very small pool of people.

If companies that lay off workers did not have to worry about paying entitlements, the decision wouldn't be such an issue for them to worry about.

Well, anyone who works in paid employment receives money - that is their monetary value. Hey - in Australia, you don't even have to work and the gov still hands you a pay cheque - that's the monetary value the gov places on a person.

Every individual has skills (I'll exclude the ill and disabled here, but I am not saying that they have no skills, just more obstacles to prevent them using them iykwim) that has value to a workforce - as a nation, people are just too fussy about the kinds of work they will do or overinflate what their skills are worth to a potential employer.

Two things come to mind here - some super model (Naomi Campbell?) is famous for saying she wouldn't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day. I've also seen Warrick Capper manning the stop and go sign at some local road works to earn an income....

I know of a person who years ago went on the dole because he felt that his two degrees meant he shouldn't have to do manual labour...... He could have had a job, but considered it beneath him to get his hands dirty...

I don't really understand what you mean by this - but if it's that the workers have too many entitlements these days - then I agree with you. Maybe the bottom line of the large companies can absorb these costs etc - but for the little business owner - they are often the straw that breaks the camel's back. When it comes to a stage where an employer cannot afford to employ a worker because of all the extra entitlements they also have to take into account, then there are a lot less people creating jobs, which has a catch 22 of higher unemployment, decreased means of production and an increasing need to outsource and obtain supplies from overseas.

Those who voted "No" to Capitalism which roughly translates to "a user pays" society - what other economic model do you propose that you would like to live under?

List extra entitlemenst that people do not deserve?

The generous ten days sick?

Id rather an employee not effect the rest of my workers.

I meant large companies would lay off workers for that extra bit of share value if they did not have to pay entitlements.

That was the problem with capitalism I listed, there is no end point to which someone or anyone says that they have gone to far and have made enough money.

That point is when Government steps in and those who favour capitalism cry 'Smaller Government!'

The only thing that balances capitalism is 'income equality' or as it's labelled  by some...communism.

Nobody publically has come up with a third alternative that rewards hard work, let's people who earn it get wealth, while keeping the underclass above poverty.

I guess what Japan has been doing seems like a good alternative, but that could come accross as boarderline 'communism' to some.

the GFC bail- outs that happened mostly o'seas were example's of socialism saving capitalisms bacon. we were fortunate enough to have good government who imposed stimulus and saved it from affecting us in such a drastic fashion.
