I am an expert on non-expert repairs.
For the drain, try screwing a thumbnail sized chunk of wire scourer to the end of a stretchy curtain wire. Add boiling water and lots of detergent.

A Vax and/or an air compressor can also work wonders.

I don't have any personal experience on this topic and only occasionally dropped into the other thread but I really think there has been so much compassion, understanding and advice offered, both emotional and practical, that *someone* should gather it all together and publish it. It would be the best self-help book ever.

As for your blocked drain. Someone mentioned soda bicarb.....it works...sprinkle it in the drain and leave for a bit...boil a kettle of water and pour down drain...it's prob. a mixture of body fat/hair (yewk) and that should melt/dislodge it.
