Why do people take children to visit patients in hospital then let the children run around the corridors and in and out the wards.

Just visited a friend in hospital who has had a work accident and is in the orthopaedic ward.  While we were there 3 children came in to the ward and were crawling under the beds etc.  I took them out to the nurses station and the nurse wasn't very happy as they have been there most day and are just run riot.

The parents were there visiting with someone in another ward.  And yes there are open visiting hours in these wards.

Alot of hospitals have toys for kids to play with, they should have been there.

The parents should take more responsibility when taking kids to hospitals, but some parents are lax in that.

Some people do not set boundaries for themselves or their children, although some people have high expectations of children too....

I was in the bank with my perfect master 4 yesterday, he was sitting on a chair, waiting, quietly doing nothing......

A man waiting in line told him to go stand next to me 😮

Little man just looked at me, looked at the guy and looked away. I looked at the guy, smiled at master 4 and left him on the chair. Some people are really out of line.

What a rude man azure. Poor little master 4, how confusing for him.

The hospital my grand daughter was in 2 weeks ago has a playroom available for both the ill and visitors to use. But that was in the childrens ward of that particular hospital.

The op mentioned they had been there most of the day....that seems a long time for anyone to visit IMO.....don't most hospitals have a quiet / sleep period when visitors are not alllowed?

When i was in hospital after having bub, there was a woman in the room next to me whos hubby used to visit near all day and they used to let their kid run around everywhere.

I had to tell him so many times to get out of my room. In the end i complained to the nurses and they were told they had to keep him in their room only

maybe someone had been in a really bad accident and their partner was waiting anxiously for each half hour to pass to make sure they weren't dead yet, and maybe the partner hadn't had time to arrange another form of baby sitting so had no choice but to bring the kids until someone could come get them?

yeah, maybe incoinsiderate of the partner, but maybe he was thinking of how long his wife was gonna live for - or maybe he was having to make the organ donation decion or maybe he was having to make the DNR decision.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

I think it's a tough environment for kids but what can you do?

I visited an old uncle in hospital on Sunday and next door was a man who had suffered a stroke. His daughter is there every day morning until night talking to him, feeding him, washing him. She is obviously devastated at the state of her dad cause she looks shattered.

Her 3 little kids were running riot in the room and my uncle said it was all day. But he was OK with it - he said the grandfather was sure to close to death and she had little choice to bring the kids in with her.

Sometimes it can't be helped. And in her case I could see there was no way she could take of the kids and attend to her dad.
