China is starting to eradicate covid-19 and so being re-infected by those returning from overseas is becoming a concern hence a new mandatory quarantine upon return , also Beijing resident teachers and students located outside the city have been advised not to return until schools are reopened
https://www.thebeijinger.com/blog/2020/01/22/coronavirus-count-in-beijing#virus_total_count
I mention this because what happens in China to control coriv-19 is a hint as to what we should be doing , at least within sensible limits taking into account local conditions.ie not flu season here , people living less communally etc
If will can neautralise coronavirus within Australia , this may enhance continued trade with China, through in part a consideration of elevated worthiness, and so possibly improve our economy ( Major trading regions Europe and the States are uncertain at this time )

of course we must take any news from china regarding anything to do with the virus with a pinch of salt
they are not the most honest regarding the truth or what get put out into the media
im sure the figures given are very much 'doctored' and we may never know the truth behind the virus or how many are dead

Mutation in coronavirus?
If this is accurate it may get worse.

China has been incredibly open about the outbreak, once they realised its potential for pandemic.
The one country that is posing the greatest danger is America. They have done nothing much. The medical staff that greeted the people evacuated from China were not given any instructions or protective clothing. Their 1st diagnostic kits, all 100 000, were faulty. So, they only just started to test now, but have been only getting something like 5 000 kits a week. Many places, actually MOST places, do not have the kits. The test costs $3 200, which means many people will avoid being tested, even if they feel sick, and even if the test was available. On top of that Trump is more concerned about the stockmarket, and made announcement that COVID19 has been dealt with, and in any case it is a hoax, and people do not really get sick, and can go to work even if they have it. They have now transmission within community, and each person diagnosed has been in contact with dozens of people before getting sick, many of them would be just a casual contact, like standing next to such person in a shop; no way to trace them. Once it is loose in community, very strict closing down of whole districts and self quarantine is the only way to stop the spread.
And they have preidential election this year, with all those rallies...............

Yes, and the vaccine they are working on might not be effective on both strains. Not to mention it might be mutating further.

Do you think maybe it is time to stop trying to contain the virus and concentrate the resources (money and man power) on medically assisting those people who are unfortunate enough to get a serious illness from covid 19 virus?
Most people who catch it are not getting very sick and yet huge amounts of money and manpower are being expended tracing possible contacts etc and hospitalising and treating people with only mild illness.
It was worth it in the beginning to try to contain the virus and the quarantine measures and attempts to minimise the spread were good, but it is now so widespread I wonder if it is time to accept that it's going to run through communities just like the common cold does and concentrate on those who get very sick.
Might help stop the panic buying too.

If it does not get brought under control it is estimated that something like 60% of all people will get it, that would mean about 14 000 000 people in Australia, and if only 10% of the infected needed to be hospitalised, that would be 1.4million needing hospital beds and that would need hospital staff that we just do not have. If you then have a heart attack, there will be no bed in ICU for you.
Not to mention that the the 1.4 million seriously ill would be your postmen, shelf stackers at Coles, train drivers, plumbers, electricians, delivery drivers, factory workers and people that work in the warehouses that supply our shops. That is when your stash of loo paper will come handy when supplies will not get through.

But what is that based on? 60% sounds very high. Also, don't forget the great majority of those that get it won't get noticably sick and won't be quarantined so will be able to go about their normal lives

Actually, assuming the 1.4 million figure is anywhere near accurate, the vast majority would be people not in the workforce. People who are getting seriously ill are the very elderly and those already ill with other diseases. I'm not trying to be provocative but many of those would have DNR orders in place already and would not want heroic ressucatation measures to be used on them.
There are some otherwise healthy people who have succumbed so we need to learn more about the virus to help them. Freeing up some of the resources presently going into containment may help speed this up.
I'm just trying to approach the problem from a different angle - doesn't look like we are winning with the present strategies😊

They are offering super fast tracked visas for health delegations to visit China for in situ evaluations - they are startimg to get worried about being reinfected

Get the feeling that in the early days they ( USA via CDC ) were considering it as another flu strain and going to let it through and just amortize the tally - context is 10,000 have died so far from garden varity flu , and 80,000 in 2018/2019 winter , without a national calamity declared. However is obvious that something has spooked the Chinese enough to introduce containment measures knowing that will seriously degrade their industry and commerce and threaten the mental health of half their population.
