CHOCOLATE may soon be in such short supply, it will only be available as a luxury item to the wealthy.
AS CNBC.com reports, increasingly scarce supplies of cocoa beans, ingredient costs and concerns about child slavery involved in cocoa bean production may price one of the world's favourite sweets out of reach for many people.
Substitutes like palm oil and chemical flavourings and fillers will increasingly make up "chocolate" bars, while the real stuff will be at a premium.
The price of cocoa butter, the vegetable fat extracted from cocoa beans which makes up about a quarter of every chocolate bar, has reached a four-year high and whole milk powder, another major component, rose more than 20 per cent.
World Vision has led a campaign to end child labour in cocoa bean production in West African countries like Ivory Coast and Ghana, which are leading global producers.
The world's biggest chocolate consumers are Europeans.

I don't like chocolate all the much anyway. Specially not in summer when it goes all gluggy if it's not keept in a cool environment. Keep it in the fridge and it goes to hard and loses flavour.
I hate getting chocolate for Christmas.
Bah Humbug 🙂

FANTASTIC! I've just got back to my perfect weight, easy peasy, but my one craving was for those delicious "Just Divines" that Aldi sell. This will make temptation sooooo much easier.
Think it will really happen though?

The best Chocolate I ever tasted was home made by a friends mother.
I loved going to their place as we were not allowed many sweets at home.

Maybe if they can stop people exploiting cheap (child) labour.
Which I can't really see happening. Children are an easily renewable commodity in some parts of the world.

I prefer champagne to chocolate, anyway. Or sparkling wine as it must be called these days unless it actually comes from the Champagne region in France.
I'd much rather be given sparkling wine for Christmas than chocolate. At least you can stick it the fridge and keep it in the fridge for
Ron lol.
