Christian and Muslim protesters gathered outside KIIS FM's studios in North Ryde, Sydney on Monday demanding that radio presenter Kyle Sandilands be fired.

Police were called to intervene as dozens prayed in the street and called for Kyle's sacking over offensive comments he made about the Virgin Mary last week. 

The shock jock had already apologised for the segment on The Kyle & Jackie O Show in which he called Mary a 'liar' who got knocked up 'behind a camel shed', but the religious protesters were not satisfied with his response.

'We live in a country that has double standards because in the commercial code of conduct clause 214 states that a radio station cannot offend [or] discriminate against religion, sex, gender,' Georgie Clark, who led the protest, told The Daily Telegraph.

'Kyle from 106.5 KIIS FM went and discriminated against not only one religion but two.

Kyle Sandilands is a dirty piece of dog turd,,,

this is basic 'shock jock' behaviour

they say stuff they know will get a reaction

3  types of reaction

the 'you cant say that you must be fired' reaction

the 'yeah man, that what we say too!' reaction 

and

the 'so what, the guys a putz and just does it for publicity' reaction.

kyle has a history of saying nasty cruel things about verious targets, just shows hes a slug who lives under a damp rock.

same as all the others like him.

i dont give him or his views the time of day.

starve him and his supporters (advertisers) air and he will shrivel and die.

as long as people listen to him and buy from companies who are happy to deal with him he'll keep doing it.

That's the problem with the way the English language has been hijacked over the years.

Gay used to mean happy, joyful, fun etc.  These days, certain words have been changed to describe anything but the original intention.

English, like any other language, evolves (and is meant to), but it's a pity that that kind of change can also create ignorance and meaningless bias .. bigotry and spite included.

So you say but that doesn't answer my questions:

1) Why is it disgusting? Is there something intrinsically disgusting about being gay?

2) How do you know it is a lie? Is there any reference to Jesus's sexuality either in the gospels or any of the histories that mention him?

There's no evidence Jesus was gay either, so no reason for Elton John to claim so.

There seems to be an unfortunate assumption in these so called enlightened days that if a person doesn't marry or live with someone, they have to be gay.

I have a friend with an unmarried daughter and she has been asked a few times about her daughter's sexuality. No, the daughter isn't gay, she has a lot of interests but has just not met anyone. She seems to be leading a happy and busy life with sport and hobbies.

I'm not condemning homosexuals but the fact is it is theirs is a minority group. That in itself is fine, no need to try to bolster the numbers by spurious means though.

Kyle has been mega active the last week. Some of the things he said to the runner up on the Bachelor show were a bit slimy, I thought.

As in

Get over him,” Kyle said to Abbie, according to news.com.au. “Because I asked those two this morning what was the first sex like. They were on a couch in a hotel in South Africa making out and feeling each other, and then he lifted her up and took her to the bedroom, took all his clothes off and inserted himself.”

Personally, I can't understand why the winners gave Kyle the time of day when he asked about their sex life, but Kyle could have just said to Abbie, "Get over it, they confirmed they are in a sexual relationship now."

I suspect he phrased it as he did simply to upset her and get the outrage flowing.

I wonder if he is in the middle of pay rise negotiations or going for a new contract and is trying to enhance his image as a shock jock.

Elton John reportedly stated...

"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.

"On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East - you're as good as dead."

The operative words are "I think". While he was probably being provocative, he may conceptualize and identify with Jesus this way, which he is entitled to do. Is it any different to the conceptualizations of numerous westerners who see Jesus as a white, slim faced, beautiful looking man? Surely this must offend people of Jewish origin.

Of course one response by the Catholic League to Johns' comments was, ""More seriously, to call Jesus a homosexual is to label Him a sexual deviant". Sexual deviant? How Christian of them.

Good to see the statement in context.

I certainly would not have banned Elton from performing anywhere because of those words.

I suspect his ban though could have had as much to do with the last part of his statement as the first.

You'll definitely find some Christians who will condemn homosexuality but the persecution/execution of homosexuals is currently much more of a thing in muslim based countries. That unfortunately is a fact.

And it is just facts I am talking about. That's why although I don't think Elton's words were meant in an evil way (but probably in a deliberately provocative way), I do think he has hijacked fact. There is no evidence Jesus was gay. It's not long ago we had others claiming he was secretly married with children. It's all supposition.
