Hi Bushie,
This reminds me of London in the 70s - IRA.
Train stations - do not leave anything alone - the station got cleared.
Post Boxes - had steel plates put over the posting slot so no device could go down.
Nothing much has changed.
Have a great story of a pub in Stratford-on-Avon - all my fault.

Bushies I respect your views but I live and work in Sydney, my husband and most of my friends do and most of us catch public transport and I don't believe in giving into terrorism and if we are going to put a city in lock down every time a package is left unattended we will no longer be able to go about our everyday lives and might as well just lock ourselves in our homes and not go out. Do that and the terrorists have won.

Maine I respect what you are saying, as I mentioned my daughter lives in Sydney and works in the CBD. After the Martin Place siege, she is concerned and I believe she has every right to feel this way. Everyone reacts differently to certain situations, I was shopping in London when Harrods was bombed, so yes, certain situations do concern me and I make no apology for that.

Grief - of course there is a reason to be concerned.
It involves all of us - all we care about.
When I was in the UK - my parents knew I was Ok a week ago - given that was when each postcard arrived.
Telephone was a tad expensive.
What is it that we cannot be concerned - concerned - not panicked - about the ones we love.
My daughter has been to Europe - 3 times - each time I told her to SMS me every 10 minutes.
She came pretty damn close - it made me feel a heelll of a lot better than my mother would have felt.

I can understand the concerns.
Most workplaces have an evacuation drill. Can your DD speak with the person in charge of her "drill section" or the First Aid Officer within the organization? Just so that she knows that someone/everyone knows what to do in a Police Situation as well as in case of Fire?
Unfortunately, some "nutters" like to cause a calamity. And there are the copy cats of those "nutters".

I guess I am thick skinned I was on medical duty at Inglis Barracks in Mill Hill London when a bomb went off, the soldier that was killed was a friend of mine. If the bomb had exploded 15 minutes earlier more men would have been in the accomodation but most had left to go to the cook house for breakfast.
