Classical Music Appreciation Thread

I love classical music, and I know the Countess likes it too. Maybe there are also lurkers who like it. 🙂

Anyway, maybe some will like to post classical music here (or listen to it).

You can post opera arias, piano recitals, orchestra concerts... - anything you like. Classical music is used in its broader meaning in this thread.

Please post links rather than embedding videos because sometimes the videos won't load.

Let's start...

Heart-meltingly beautiful tenor voice which navigates the rapid passages with such exquisite agility... I've not heard this aria sung better.

Villa-Lobos: Bachianas brasileiras No. 5. Sung by Isabel Bayrakdarian.

I: Aria,

II: Dança.

This comes very close to being perfect. The Bachianas brasileiras No. 5 is rather too frequently and notoriously given to sopranos with too heavy a tone, whereas Villa-Lobos had in mind a much lighter, more luminescent and purer timbre. Bidú Sayão, Mady Mesplé, Natania Davrath, they were the singers who early on were performing this work, but once richer lyric sopranos such as Moffo and Te Kanawa sang this, it seemed to set a different expectation. I think Bayrakdarian has the right sound, and she sings it with passion and intelligence and very great beauty.

I adore this work.

And... oh, darn it, I'm going to post the links to two recordings of this beautiful work conducted by the composer himself, one with Bidú Sayão (1945), and one with Victoria de los Angeles (1958).
