Coles' Claim 'Insulting' To Queensland Dairy Farmers

COLES' announcement last week that it would increase the price paid to processors for milk has been welcomed by the local dairy industry.

But Mary Valley dairy farmer and Queensland Dairy farmers' councillor Elke Watson said this week Coles' statement that it was "doing it for the dairy farmers" and that it would not increase the price to consumers was insulting.

"Farmers across Australia have been caught between the two supermarket giants in their battle for market share," Mrs Watson said.

"The real reason they are increasing the price is that they have now decimated the industry to such an extent that there is no longer enough milk produced in Queensland and northern NSW.

"Coles is very aware that with a decreasing dollar and reasonable international commodity prices the real truth is that the milk will go overseas and the Australian consumer will be left without if they do not increase their prices.

"The Queensland industry has never faced as serious a crisis as that initiated by Coles with its milk price war."

It frightens me how Coles and Woolworths are taking over our lives. The way they're going, crushing the small business and the producers you won't be able to buy anything independently.

They have the petrol, liquor, clothing, produce market all stitched up. I believe you can go to some Big W stores to get new glasses, and they own a large share in the poker machine market.

I bought some Fuji apples at $2 a kilo on Monday I thought wow that's a good price. Then I wondered what the poor Farmer got for his lovely apples if Coles can sell them so cheap.

Big Brother is coming to a store near you.

McCain got into strife by not playing ball with the big 2.

I think they changed their minds later but it damaged their business.

They refused to pack for the supermarkets to compete against themselves.

They packed to home brand, no frills and smart buy but not the premium ranges. I think the supermarket took their cheap range business away from them as pay back.

Agree with you icy about the two major supermarket chains calling  all the shots, not just with the supermarkets either but the other businesses you listed... it is not good, for producers, small businesses that try and compete with them nor customers.

It'll get that way, you won't be able to catch rainwater in tanks, you'll have to buy it off them.

Or be penalised for raising and growing your own food.

That's already happening in some states in the U.S Apparently you're also not allowed to have more than 3 days worth of food in your cupboard.. I can't verify that but I wouldn't be suprised if it was true

It is 7 days worth of food in your house and is in connection with the National Defense Authorization Act and terrorism.

There are laws on the books now that characterise who might be a terrorist: someone missing fingers on their hands is a suspect according to the department of justice. Someone who has guns, someone who has ammunition that is weatherproofed, someone who has more than seven days of food in their house can be considered a potential terrorist," Paul said. In that case the world might be nearly full of terrorists.
