Kevin Rudd has fended off a strong challenge and will retain his seat of Griffith, though the victory will be soured by a solid Labor defeat nationally.
Mr Rudd's main opponent for the Brisbane-based seat he has held since 1998 was Liberal National Party candidate Bill Glasson.
With more than 40 per cent of the vote counted, there has been a swing of 4.2 per cent against Mr Rudd.
That is not enough to sweep him from the seat, however, at a federal level the news for the Labor Party is dire.

Why are labor and left voters so full of hate and bitterness and totally consumed by it?
Cant they accept that they have lost, their party has lost and the people of Australia have spoken?
Seems not and seems the blinding and all consuming hatred will continue on here...
Its actually rather scary (and sad) to see the hatred and bitterness on here still from the left supporters...
Are you serious? Are you honestly for real? Your posts are one of the reasons many don't come here any more. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's another to belittle and harrass those that disagree. That just implies insecurity and close mindedness.

iza, some of us read everything and make our own minds up. Just because it's not the same as yours doesn't make us wrong and you right.
I have laughed at this Murdoch thing over the years, you think the population in general is stupid enough to go for the propaganda? How about they make an informed opinon, just like you think you do, it's just a different one.

I learnt to scoll past the C & P threads after the third one. I'm sorry you didn't.

well Australia has voted and here it is seat by seat .. We have a new govt for the next 3 years, but it wasn't the 40 seat loss that was predicted. I have my fingers crossed that Clive Palmer gets through, it will make for an interesting parliament
