Police are investigating after a statue of Captain Cook was defaced in Randwick on the weekend.
It is believed black spray paint was used to deface the statue overnight on Saturday.
Pictures taken of the statue on Sunday show the phrase "no pride in genocide" and the outline of an Aboriginal flag drawn onto the monument.
The graffiti was cleaned by Randwick Council on Sunday.
The incident comes as a statue of Captain Cook in Hyde Park was also graffitied with black spray paint on the weekend with the messages "no pride in genocide" and "sovereignty never ceded".
What does that mean, defaced with black paint? Did they paint Cpt. Cooks face black?

Wouldn't that be insulting to black ppl, making him a black person?

You may view the opinions of the indigenous people of Australia as "rubbish", and you may divide non-indigenous Australians into whatever categories you like. But I'm pretty sure you don't speak on behalf of "every Australian Taxpayer". BTW, are you referring to the Indigenous taxpayers too? Yes, "there are two sides to every story". And the Aborigines have theirs.

No I don't. I believe the Indiginenous ppl of Australia were treated abominably by the British settlers.
But not by Capt. Cook

Why not? Who do you think is paying for the benefits?

Are they not Australians also?

Indeed they are Icy. But given that you wrote, "every Australian taxpayer is very supportive of the Aboriginal communities", it seemed you were not referring to members of the Aboriginal community!
Are the Aboriginal commiuntiy not beneficiaries of the Australian taxpayer?

Tony Abbott and John Howard copped it too

A federal minister has called for people to seek to understand history rather than "take it down" as Ballarat City Council counts the cost of damage to the busts of two former prime ministers in its botanical gardens.

I think there is a point being missed in all this. Statues are not erected to teach history, they are erected to honour and venerate the person depicted.

They ought to move the staue to the MCG and put a new plate on it:
The only English Captain to tour Australia undefeated

Is it possible to seek knowledge of history and consider as personal heritage - then there maybe considered value that enables appreciation of other citrizens generational heritage
In time maybe even considering such as part of one's own identity even if not having physical genetic links , being justified by equity in lving life upon this island continent and feelings of humanity
