Corruption Cases Invalid After ICAC ruling

Several high profile corruption cases in New South Wales are likely to be declared invalid after last week's landmark High Court ruling over the ICAC's powers.

According to Fairfax media reports the findings in relation to mining magnate Travers Duncan and businessmen John McGuigan, Richard Poole and John Atkinson are likely to be overturned.

The four men were found to have engaged in corrupt conduct through their dealings with former Labor minister Eddie Obeid over a mining lease. -

Well there you go.

You can see how these mining deals get pushed through by corrupt government officiasl despite ferocious public opposition and environmental studies finding them toxic and disastrous to communities

They get charged, found guilty, let off with a slap on the wrist and finally get let off through a technicality.

No doubt there'll be no fines to be paid or jail time to be served.

ICAC went outside their remit in going after Ms Cuneen, a transparent  leftist witch hunt,  the left have been trying to bring her down for years.

ICAC failed, went too far, they thought they had the power, more than our justice system and they killed themselves.

Then they immediately drop all investigation against others to justify themselves,  their own jobs,  and now want retrospective powers, more powers, given to them even as much power as the criminal justice system.  They are not the justice system and it should be disbanded rather than given more powers.

Serves them right and it will serve us all right for tolerating this star chamber,  a chamber who ruined reputations with impunity.

Why does the right hate ICAC?

ICAC was set up by the Liberals in 1988 and it seems its sole purpose was to go after crooked Labor politicians. It has now turned into Frankenstein’s monster, devouring its creators. Indeed, its first significant scalp was Liberal premier Nick Greiner.

they should all have to answer to an independent body

This is the fallout from their own actions, actions that offended anybody who has been targeted in efforts to destroy, actions they had no power to bring.

They have now, by their own actions, discredited themselves, so much so, now all the work previous can now be repudiated because they didn't have the authority, they never had the authority to go after Ms Cuneen in the manner they did.
