NOISY children have been banned from a Sydney shopping centre in a move that one parenting expert says reflects society's growing intolerance.
The Dee Why Grand on Sydney's northern beaches, which claims to cater for young families, has introduced its new policy following complaints about out-of-control children.
The notice from centre management reads: "Stop. Parents please be considerate of other customers using the food court. Screaming children will not be tolerated in the centre."
I wonder how far this will be taken? or is it not going to be enforced and the sign is just an attempt at placating shoppers?

It really dosent matter where a person is eating, if there are kids behaving badly, then why should anybody have to put up with that?
I agree with that. If you are eating out and paying for your meal, then it doesn't matter whether it is a food court or a posh restaraunt.. the other patrons and their kids if any should not behaving in such a way as to annoy others eating.
Just saw this on SMH site:
If you don't want to read the link, the real reason they were put off the flight was because he wouldn't settle down in his seat and put his seat belt on, not the screaming. His mother says she was unaware of this reason when they were asked to get off the plane.
The child was unable to fly on a later flight as well, and his father had to come and pick him up. The mother and other son flew later to their destination.

If kids can learn to behave appropriately in Mall food courts, then they will grow up behaving appropriately in other cafes and restaraunts.

I don't ever recall seeing kids running around a food court, or screaming in one for fun.

How many different food courts have you been to and how often do you go to one? That would make a big difference to what you see.
I am sure the Manager of Dee Why Mall didn't just wake up one day and decide to put up a sign about screaming children cause she felt like it.

I like this comment:
Actually pOiter, if us parents wanted to have our kids behave on flights we would but its much more fun to annoy the anti-child brigade. Our procedure is this. Monitor passengers at checkin to find an arrogant and kid-detesting individual...usually easily identifiable by distaste shown at seeing a child in airport...then request a seat nearby that individual "We'd like to sit near our Uncle" usually works. From there its just a case of asking junior to pretend their ears are hurting from the pressure change (also another cunning fallacy) and let them go beserker. Parents get points for events like "Hostess, can I get another seat" 100pts, Muttering under the breath that parents should control their child 50pts, Looking back and glaring 30pts etc. We've got a website that tracks all this stuff and currently I'm 34762. Can you let me know when you're flying next as I dearly would like to improve my rating. Thanks!

I have been to plenty of food courts, large and small in small and large cities.
I have done a number of observational surveys at food courts for planning projects also.

I have a cousin who lives in the UK, when he flys down this end of the world, he always complains about babies/kids noise on the flight. He is flying over soon with his wife, 2 yo and 6mth old baby... I think he might become a lot more tolerant now of kids on planes...esp on 22+ hour flights.
