Crackdown on screaming children by Dee Why Grand shopping centre

NOISY children have been banned from a Sydney shopping centre in a move that one parenting expert says reflects society's growing intolerance.

The Dee Why Grand on Sydney's northern beaches, which claims to cater for young families, has introduced its new policy following complaints about out-of-control children.

The notice from centre management reads: "Stop. Parents please be considerate of other customers using the food court. Screaming children will not be tolerated in the centre."

I wonder how far this will be taken? or is it not going to be enforced and the sign is just an attempt at placating shoppers?

Did you go running amok at shopping centres knocking over little old ladies and screaming in a high pitched little kiddy voice and did your Mum look on in fond and proud admiration?

these are kids being raised by your kids.........thats right your grandchildren:^O

but of course yours are all perfect

My grandchildren.... one used to be a runner... another has ASD and could not be in shopping centres without sensory overload from lights and noise causing a massive tantrum..... fortunately we discovered the cause and eliminated it. It took a while......

Actually, I don't see a huge amount of misbehaved kids either, but just recently I saw a little boy around 4yo, raching his little sister who was still unsteady on her feet up and down the supermarket aisle, bumping into people, knocking stuff of shelves, the little girl screeching and nearly falling over several times, both had gone hyper. The parents were lost in their shopping, pretending to be oblivious. The young mum did tell them to stop a cpl of times but they took no notice and the mum took no further action.

In situations like this it's appropriate for the care-giver to intervene. They could have picked up the little girl and put her in the trolley to take the heat out of the race.

'CourseShe probably would've screamed her head off then,  lol

Yes, that's how they learn. Something could have been going on to have the parents mind off the job or they might just be those slack ones you notice because they are loud.

You've got to wonder why they don't leave the family at home and have one parent go out to shop when the kids are behaving badly.

My daughter worked in retail and she hated school holidays..........the adult would let the kids go crazy in her store and she got sick of being the babysitter.

I am with am3 on this one, I see all sorts of kids where I live; well behaved kids and kids whose parents are oblivious to their child's screams.

I have heard some kids  let out an ear piercing screech that sounded like the mother was ripping it's arm off! Then when I go elsewhere to avoid the screaming child, the mother is either walking behind me or I can still hear the screeching at the other end of the store,

Then there are the ones who have just discovered what an echo is and like to scream just to hear their own voice

I understand that some kids have disabilities, but in most cases the kids I see are screaming because their Mum won't buy them something they want.

Some parents need to remember that a shopping centre is not a playground

there are too many parents who don't care what their kids do and let them run wild.  it isn't hard to teach a child how to behave properly in public.

LIKE

I always behaved in public. I grew up in a small town where everyone knows each other so it's not like throwing a tanty in front of people you don't know

As in all things there may be some that give all others a bad reputation ?
