I just opened a jar of homemade cumquat marmalade I brought back with me from a local farmer's market I was at while visiting in Mackay.
Yummo on my breakfast toast!
I never really knew what cumquats were until I saw boxes of them at same market.
Kumquats or cumquats are a group of small fruit-bearing trees in the flowering plant family Rutaceae, either forming the genus Fortunella, or placed within Citrus sensu lato. Wikipedia
It must be a fiddly job to finely slice them little buggahs for jam!
But the result is mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm

My mum used to make the best cumquat jam.I used to sell lots of it for her when she wasn`t well enough to have her stall at Box Hill Central. Her other great spreads where relish, green tomato pickles and what other fruits were in season..Mum would then donate the proceeds to the Melbourne Zoo(she and dad were "friends" of the zoo).Over the years she donated close to $25,000..Icebuddy you bought back some happy memories for me as today marked 1 year since she I lost her...♥

Green tomato pickles were the most popular more so than red tomatoes but she never made lots of it Icebuddy as green tomatoes were hard to come by..tho it was amazing how people used to bring me their green tomatoes so mum could make her famous pickles for them!!lol

I guess you just used your red tomatos for everyday and didn't know what to do with all the green ones, so you made relish and pickles out of them.
