Recently I was very sick and had been seeing a doctor who is a nice person but misdiagnosed my illness after seeing that doctor for 3 months. I ended up in the emergency room at the hospital and then was admitted for a time.
I was lucky enough to see a doctor on duty in the ER and he shook his head and could not believe i was still walking around at all.
The doctor I had been seeing had no idea and in my opinion should not be practising at all until better qualified, scary to think we are allowing doctors into this country that are not qualified enough because of the so called shortage.

That is terrible, newstart. Are you feeling 100% better now?
I don't have a good family doctor, because I never go to one very often, so don't care which one I see when I do go.

I suppose we can only expect them to do their best?
Yes, we do and he is excellent! but if he made a mistake, I would probably not be so pleased.

I am not sure where you are going with this comment newstart "scary to think we are allowing doctors into this country that are not qualified enough because of the so called shortage"
I hardly ever get sick so just go to my local med center and see the first available doctor. Last year I got very sick I saw 3 Australian doctors and everyone of them miss diagnosed me with bronchitis it was only on my 4th visit 3 months after I got sick that I went in and saw a Chinese doctor who was trained in Hong Kong who diagnosed me straight away with whooping cough, a blood test which the other doctors should have order confirmed this. In my opinion most foreign trained doctors are highly trained and competent as always it is the minority giving the majority a bad name.

what's the Diagnosis? What did the original doctor think it was?

? There are plenty of Australian trained doctors that I would never go to see. One a top Melbourne specialist who didn't ask if I was taking any medication before writing out a script, didn't ask if I had any other illnesses or if I was allergic to any medication.....his fee $270 for a 20 minute consultation.
My grandson sees a local Asian doctor, very kind and caring, thorough and knows his work.
Personally I travel back 55k's to see our family doctor of over 20 years.

Yes, we have an excellent family doctor who we have been going to for about 30 years now. He is Asian, still does home visits for his established patients and still accepts Medicare only. He is also an excellent diagnostician.
When we first started going to him, his daughter was a toddler.....she is now our dentist, and a very good one too.

Bravo mainecoon. The best doctors I have ever had have been Asian. I get so sick and tired of my relatives and friends (and strangers) comparing foreigners unfavourably to Australians. Australians are lazy and do a half-a**ed job at everything, from sarcastic receptionists to council workers. If they don't like you or you don't treat them with deferential reverence, people on the phone or in stores will purposely waste your time. Aussie tradesmen and removalists are the worst. My mother thinks if they have a broad Aussie twang and come from a small, country town, you can trust them. What rubbish. In my experience, those with such a background cheat you the most.
It wasn't always like this but this is Australia 2013. I have lived overseas and it's not much better, and I do believe the influx of foreigners has contributed to the change in service of all Australians but to say foreign workers are less good at their job is a generalisation and racist.
I love Australia but I certainly don't love Australians.

Oh and I'm Australian and certainly feel well qualified to speak 🙂
