'Dead rubber' Ashes talk only reveals those who don't understand Test cricket

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-12-30/geoff-lemon-dead-rubber-talk-shows-who-doesnt-understand-tests...

Lets look at the facts

in 3 tests where it mattered Cook was a missing in action.

this test is a "Dead Rubber"

and IF England fail to win this game his Double Century wont mean spit to the ashes contest.

so yes, its go into the record books but beyond the Barmy Army will be forgotten by all others.

oh and Cook will likely remember the record making score he made that didnt win a test.

Making big runs when it counts is his job. my guess is this double century will mean the Poms will keep him in the team and not TAP HIM ON THE SHOULDER meaning he'll be taking the spot of a future long term opener.

maybe i'm wrong i often am, maybe he will make stacks of runs over the next year or two.

or maybe this will be a blip on his long record and he'll go back to getting out for low scores.

we watch and wait.

If one of them are out with no runs does that mean it's a

'Dead rubber' Ashes?

Some people watch cricket with only one interest in mind - winning. Others watch with the additional hope that a rare opportunity might arise to witness a player demonstrate their craft and skills with excellence. On this occasion it was Alastair Cook, and he was magnificent. Even our worst sledgers shook his hand to congratulate him. The lounge chair critics can make of it what they choose, but his innings will be entered into the history books where it will remain long after the rhetoric has been forgotten.

Notforsale, your post is one of the best I have ever seen.  It offers a down to earth, independent and realistic opinion from an all encompassing neutral viewpoint.

I don't watch or even really like cricket, however, I do appreciate that it is a highly skilled game that does deserve to be there, unlike 'blood' sports ...  Smiley Happy
