Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Annual turnover $300 000

Taxable income $75 000

Tax payable (current law) $16 000

Federal budget 2015: Abbott demands $1.5 billion of East West Link cash

Tony Abbott is demanding Victoria hands back $1.5 billion of East West Link cash as a major saving to pad out his second budget, paving the way for a bitter federal-state showdown over infrastructure funding.

In a direct challenge to Victoria, the federal budget includes the money as one of the government's biggest savings measures, boosting the bottom line by $100 million this financial year, $300 million in 2015-16, $600 million the year after that and $500 million in 2018-19.

State Treasurer Tim Pallas hit back at the PM on Tuesday night, saying Victorians were 'sick and tired' of political games over East West Link.

The $1.5 billion clawback from Victoria represents almost 14 per cent of the total $11 billion worth of major savings announced by the Abbott government over the next four years. Despite booking the road cash as a saving, the government remains adamant the road must be built as a job creating, congestion busting project for Melbourne.

In a gesture towards the project, the budget papers acknowledge a "risk" that $3 billion could be needed in the future in a section discussion "risks to the bottom line". But the risk is a distant one: Premier Daniel Andrews will not build the road, the next state election is not due until 2018 and, at this stage, not even state Opposition Leader Matthew Guy is firmly committed to the project.

Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss and Assistant Infrastructure Minister Jamie Briggs released a statement promising that $3 billion would be offered to the first Victorian government willing to build the road. They said the project was delayed not dead, confirming the commitment was being recorded in the budget as a "contingent liability".

"The Victorian government will waste over half a billion dollars not to build this world class project but the East West Link may still be reinstated at a later date by a government willing to do the right thing by the people of Victoria. To this end, the Commonwealth government has revised the forward estimates, including the return of $1.5 billion of unspent funding from the Victorian government," the statement says.

that's pathetic!
